“State Department Spent $52,701 on Curtains for Nikki Haley’s Residence.”- NYT & HOGG

The original headline has since been retracted by the Lying NYT ... and replaced with ...
“Nikki Haley’s View of New York Is Priceless. Her Curtains? $52,701.”

"The headline on a hotly shared New York Times story now reads: “State Department Spent $52,701 on Curtains for Nikki Haley’s Residence.”

Sounds like a lot of money for curtains, right?

Indeed. But that headline is a far less clicky version than the one it replaced, which stoked a great deal of outrage online. It read, “Nikki Haley’s View of New York Is Priceless. Her Curtains? $52,701.” Based on that presentation, someone might just conclude that Haley herself charged taxpayers big money for the curtains on her government-provided digs in New York. She is the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, a Trump administration appointee.

Lo and behold, people did reach that very conclusion:

Dear Nikki Haley,

There are starving children in America everyday and you have the audacity to misappropriate thousands of tax dollars for your own lavish lifestyle. Resign immediately

sincerely,

America https://t.co/j9h5t50GPb

The State Department spent $52,701 last year buying customized and mechanized curtains for Nikki Haley's official residence, just as the department was undergoing deep budget cuts.

The full-floor penthouse is listed at $58,000 a month.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/13/us/politics/nikki-haley-curtains.html

Except, the details: “A spokesman for Ms. Haley said plans to buy the curtains were made in 2016, during the Obama administration. Ms. Haley had no say in the purchase, he said.” The pricey window treatments are part of a luxurious spread on First Avenue that was listed at $58,000 per month — a 6,000-square-foot space designed to host functions for U.N. dignitaries. Haley is the first U.N. ambassador to occupy the place after the U.S. ... "

Show your outrage righties. How much are taxpayers on the hook for trump's golf junkets to Mar-a-Lago, Bedminster NJ and Sterling VA? Something like $17 million so far.

Worth every penny. Besides, never once did I here you whine about The Obama's extravagant vacations.

The outrage is the Times' attempt at attacking Haley for something she had nothing to do with. Haleys name has been mentioned in potential GOP presidential circles so is it just coincidence the Times goes after her? It's possible of course. But your response doesn't have anything to do with why this draws a reaction from people on the right (meaning it's not about the dollar amount).

It's true they didn't do their research. I guess they mentioned Haley because she was the first to live in the new place. They should have made it about government spending instead.

Is that how B. Hussein managed to be the only President in US history that never saw a 3% GDP ....

Gotta love you Alt Left Universe folks ....

Fake news.

"Trump said, "Watch those GDP numbers. We started off at a very low number, and right now we hit a 3.2 (percent). Nobody thought that was possible."

This is inaccurate two ways. First, the most recent saw GDP growth of 2.0 percent, not 3.2 percent. And second, exceeding 3 percent GDP growth in a quarter is not an unusual achievement -- Obama accomplished it eight times. The real achievement would be a full year at 3 percent, which hasn’t happened under Trump yet.

We rate the statement False.
