Stand Your Ground Dog Poop

Walt

Back To Reality
Every day or two we hear of a new "Florida Man" vigilante going out with a gun looking for trouble. In this crazy time, running away from a gun welding maniac is considered threatening, and that gun welding maniac is allowed to "stand his ground" by chasing you down.

Kings Pointer Robert Levine, 74, fired five shots at an unfamiliar fellow condo resident, Herbert Merritt, 64, while he was walking his dog near the 15th hole of the golf course at Kings Point early one evening last month, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Levine, driving a golf cart, pulled up to Merritt, and confronted him about walking his dog too close to the golf course, according to the arrest report.

The verbal confrontation took a potentially life-and-death turn when Levine pointed a handgun at Merritt, who then ran, as Levine pursued him around a tree in the cart while shooting at the fleeing dog owner, the arrest report said.

One of the shots hit Merritt in the left ankle, wounding him and dropping him to the ground. Levine wasn’t done, according to the report. An eyewitness told deputies that the golfer kicked Merritt in the head, then went to golf cart, pulled out a club and began hitting the fallen dog owner with a club, while still holding the handgun in his other hand.

I agree the laws are part of the problem, but not SYG. It’s mental fitness. What kind of sane person would do what Robert Levine did? IMO the answer is “none”.

Mental health checks should be part of every annual physical and an annual physical should be part of every medical insurance plan. No physical, no treatment or medications.

Stand Your Ground allows someone to initiate an argument, and then say that the argument makes them feel unsafe. A Duty To Retreat reduces violence.

We are seeing more and more Stand Your Ground cases where the victim is trying to run away, and is shot in the back. A crazy person comes up to you, threatens you with a gun, you try to run away, and get shot in the back, that was not self defense anywhere other than a few red states.

We are also seeing more and more drunk people entering the wrong home, and shooting the actual residents of that house by "mistake". If you try to enter what you believe is your home, and find someone you do not know eating ice cream on a couch you do not recognize, the best solution is to retreat, call the police, and think through what is going wrong with this picture. Instead, we are seeing people start shooting.

well Florida IS Florida, you have to manage your expectations there.

Not a fucking lawyer, but I’d like to see that in print. How does someone force another to attack them?

While I have no doubt some shit town allowed that to happen, please post 3 instances of an unarmed person shot in the back while the shooter got off Scott free.

Are you saying the drunk got off murder charges for murdering a family in their own home?

you lying sack of Salty shit
SYG has nothing to do with this
~~

judge who deemed Levine a threat to himself and others issued a risk-protection order this week, prohibiting him from possessing firearms and ammunition for a year.

Shooter's lawyer says gunfire was lawful

Levine, who has been charged with attempted murder,

How does someone force another to attack them?

Stand Your Ground does not involve being attacked. It involves being afraid of being attacked. So if you shout at someone that you are going to kill them, it is reasonable to assume they are a threat, and then you can kill them.

no citations, some truth mixed in with lies and editorializing. In short- a fraud

Or the owner shit on the golf course. That would be cool too. Unless I play that course, then don't do it.

Your article is complete horseshit. All it says is that under SYG you have no duty to retreat, it says nothing about shooting someone in the back because your feels were hurt.

It means you can advance into a situation you decide is threatening, and then open fire on the people you find threatening. Those people do not have to do anything wrong.

It doesn't say that anywhere. All it says is you no longer have a duty to retreat.

That was pretty good. One time we caught a gator with a rubber worm while fishing and put it in a cooler. Then asked 1 dude to hand us a soda out the cooler.
