I'm reading my Facebook timeline and people are posting this is like election night all over again and this is about the rich white man winning again against the people. I mean WTF?!

I'm a Republican and a patriotic American and I hate all Boston sports teams. This is crazy

I have legit said multiple on here now, and you thought it was hyperbole, that there is a decent segment of this population that completely just fucking lost it after the election. Everything is political for them now. Tom Brady has a MAGA hat and thus the pats must be destroyed.

See this article someone posted in APP: http://deadspin.com/the-darkest-super-bowl-1791885899

Hey, after 8 years of fawning adoration mode the Left is MORE than ready to resume Bush Derangement Syndrome. Brady won't condemn Trump so he must Suffer !!!! (Just dial-up "Rent-a Mob" on social media...)

"...Rent-a-Mob..."

That's not what I saw. I saw a bunch of people rooting for Atlanta cause they despise Belicheck and his cheating only to start making jokes about Atlanta after the game to the affect "No one has blown such a big lead since Hillary Clinton.".

So nice job of showing you live in a bubble. ;)

Oh, trust me, I know I live in a bubble.

I posted earlier the WSJ article about long time Patriots fans who said they would root for Atlanta in this game because of Brady, Bilicheck and Kraft's relationship with Trump.

Well here's another one from a couple of days ago from The Undefeated (a black sports website) on ESPN.

Belichick, Brady & Kraft’s relationship with Trump is complicated for Patriots fans of color

Why some Boston sports fan are struggling to support their team and others aren’t

Gotta agree with you. I don't do Facebook, but my wife does. She could not believe how lit up it was during the Super Bowl. Yes, just like election night. PS...Not a Patriots or Tom Brady fan either.

Here are a couple of Facebook posts in my feed during the game:

This game represents the struggle of the People against rich white men. We think we made ground then those rich white guys figure out a way to steal it all back! Power to the people and Go Falcons!

To all the Black Patriot fans! This what the rest of us think about you!

This is killing me!
#itsaboutmorethanthisgame

I am as unhappy about the Patriots win as I was for my Raiders when Derek Carr broke his leg. Now, we are going to hear from that BIG MOUTH in Washington DC AGAIN!!!

i'm afraid your experience is more normative then we like to think..going to your OP -EVERYTHING IS POLITICIZED

Yep, authoritarian socialists want to micro manage every aspect of our lives. It's sickening how they have politicized everything, ... even our sports entertainment.

Why do you have a problem with people hating Trump and anyone who gets close to him? He's likely the most hated man on earth .. certainly the most rejected.

Brady has every right to love Trump .. and everyone else who chooses to, has every right to hate Brady and anyone else who loves TRump.

Was this a problem for you when your side was hating Obama?

I'm talking about sports. Have you stopped rooting for one of your teams based on the politics of a player or coach on a team?

I hate the Patriots but I don't care who they support or don't support politically.

And I'm not sure what this has to do with Obama. As a Republican should I not support the Warriors anymore because Curry and Kerr are liberals? Or not like the 49ers anymore because of Kapernick?

My choosing to root for the Patriots was entirely dependent upon who their opponent was. One of my cardinal rules of rooting interest for sports is the team must not be from the south. If both teams are southern, then other qualifiers apply. If the Packers would have made the SB, I would have been all-in for Aaron Rodgers. I basically would have rooted for the following NFC teams: SEA, GB, CHI, DET, MIN, NJG, WAS, and PHI. Since LA and AZ are division rivals, I may or may not have rooted for them (definitely not Santa Clara, though).

The fact that people were going apeshit over the Patriots made it more fun to root for them. I rooted against the Patriots in 2007, and that was probably the greatest SB of all-time.

Yes, I've stopped rooting for a player of team based on their politics, and I doubt that's rare.

Point is, Trump is incredibly unpopular .. why should sports and the people who engage in them be any different?

Across the spectrum of life and careers, Trump is incredibly unpopular .. with of course the exception of WWE fans. They like fake shit .. think it's real.

Ok. We'll I've never seen on my Facebook feed people openly rooting against a team based on politics. To each his own.
