I support full legalization but medical is an important first step and might even prove the death blow to prohibition.
As it is now, there is nothing in the constitution that really supports protecting a right to mj use save a very liberal reading of the 9th. I don't think the courts will ever accept that argument on the 9th or the better supported argument that congress is not empowered to prohibit its use. But, if marijuana is established as medicine then I think we have a stronger case for a fundamental right to privacy in its use via Griswold, Roe et al.
