I've been saying for a long time that renewables like solar and wind are inherently unstable, now there is dramatic proof of that.

Spain admits solar power could be to blame for nationwide blackouts as top court opens 'sabotage' probe

Spain's grid operator admitted today that solar power could be to blame for the blackouts that brought chaos to much of the Iberian peninsular on Monday.

Red Eléctrica's System Operations Chief Eduardo Prieto told a news briefing the electricity system was hit by a dramatic power generation loss in southwestern Spain, that caused instability in the system that led to its disconnection from the French grid.

He said it was quite possible that the affected generation was solar, but it was to early to say for sure. Prieto said the system was now stable and working normally.

California is in a similar situation to Spain.

Following the permanent shutdown of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in 2013, Diablo Canyon is now the only operational nuclear plant in California, as well as the state's largest single power station.

Siemens Energy CEO Christian Bruch, meanwhile, said the German energy tech group was holding talks with the relevant transmission and utility operators following the blackout.

“What you do see is that when you build an energy system, you need to think about the generation, like solar, wind, gas, whatever, but you also need to think about how the overall system on the grid side [is[ operating and how you stabilize that,” Bruch told CNBC on Thursday.


There you have it......the system is poorly designed....the experts have failed us yet again.
 
When I lived in Spain, before solar, the electrical grid was so unstable, that some of the NAV-AIDS used emergency diesel generators 24-7.

Connecting solar to an inherently unstable system is insane.
