Greenville County deputies shot and killed a man Tuesday night as he held a rifle and screamed "Kill me, kill me, kill me" outside a home, according to Greenville County Sheriff Steve Loftis.

Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans identified the victim as Robert Morgan Garrison Jr., 51, of Piedmont.

Evans said Garrison died from a gunshot to the head.

Loftis said dispatchers got a call around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday about a "disturbance" on West Gantt Circle.

A deputy found a "very agitated, unruly male" inside the house, Loftis said.

Loftis said the deputy saw the man with a knife and called for backup.

He said the man came out of the home holding a rifle and screamed "Kill me, kill me, kill me."

Lofits said deputies asked the man several times to put down the rifle, and he would not comply.

According to Loftis, when the man moved the rifle in a threatening manner, as if he were going to open fire, two deputies shot at the man.

Loftis said the deputies used "the necessary force to eliminate the threat that was facing them."

Loftis said he doesn't believe that the man returned fire.

The man died at the scene, Loftis said.

Loftis said SLED was called to the scene to assist in the investigation, which is standard procedure.

Deputies said a man died Wednesday morning after being shot while sitting in a car with his wife, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Steve Mueller.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said Carl Francis Burden, 35, was in a car with his wife in the parking lot of a business on Blacksburg Highway around 4 a.m. when he was shot.

Mueller said he was shot through the windshield while the car was parked outside the gates of the old Cemex Plant.

After the shooting, Fowler said Burden's wife drove him to Mary Black Health System, where he was pronounced dead.

Mueller said this is not a random crime.

Lt. Sheila Cole with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office said shell casings were found in the area around the porch.

Cole also said deputies have not identified a possible suspect in the case.
