something to check out if....

The Republicans have had ONE PARTY CONTROL FOR YEARS.

The dems get Congress for 6 months, and all of a sudden, we need a unity party, because the dems and republicans are destroying this country.

Thanks SF, but I'm going to be voting D across the board in 08. I don't want "unity". I want to kick the asses of the maniacs responsible for this mess, and they are Republicans, back into the stone age where they belong, and then start to try and undo some of the damage they have caused.

You guys over at "unity 08" are free of course, to hold hands and sing kumbaya. ;)

Darla... I wasn't referring to just the last 7 years.... I was referring to the last 45 years... when the two parties subsequently raped this country and left it in a huge pile of debt. The two parties that have done little to improve the efficiency of the government. The two parties that have taken certain issues and used them to drive an eternal wedge between the public. So that we can point fingers and say "YOUR party is more evil than mine". The two parties that have intelligent individuals constantly trying to decide between the "lesser of two evils" and somehow making that seem ok.

But it is certainly not for all. I expect there are those that feel as you do based on the shorter term. I cannot blame you for feeling that way.

never liked Kumbaya... :)

lol @ darla.

Yeah, I love this sudden "let's share the blame" focus.

Since the Reagan Revolution, the GOP has overwhelmingly controlled the federal goverment (executive, congress, judiciary) at all levels for most of the time, and controlled most of the State governorships, at least since the early 1990s.

OH come on Darla. Let me reverse your shit: The Dems have been preaching about unity for years, and now all of the sudden they want to own everything? Darla, the Dems aren't going to own everything forever. Everything you partisanly shove down the Republicans throats they are eventually going to use against the Dems WHENEVER they gain power. This country is far too partisan already, and not all Republicans are bad, and not all Democrats are good.

and in the 20 years prior to Reagan?

There is nothing "sudden" about sharing the blame.... I have said this repeatedly for the past couple of decades. 1960 was the last fiscal year the politicians lowered our nations debt. There have been numerous years with Dems in control and numberous years of Rep control. They are both to blame.

But you if you want to act as though your party is innocent, please... feel free. That is what they want their good little sheep to do. Keep pointing fingers at the opposing party while acting as though yours is made up of saints. Exactly what the two parties want you to do.... baaaaaa

And the Dems controlled all of that from the 30's to the 80's. We can basically blame all of the problems of the 20th century on the Dems, since they were in power the whole damn time.

On THAT we agree 100%

Ummm, WM? the period between the 30s and the 80s was the most prosperous era for the middle class in american history. That's when a strong middle class first developed, and when middle class wages and benefits could be counted on to rise, year after year on average.

Since 1980, the middle class has been squeezed.

The decades before reagan were the golden era of the american middle class. For families, one spouse could support an entire family on one income, leaving the other spouse to raise the children. Today, in most middle class families, both spouses have to work just to make it.

Real wages for the middle class have been fairly stagnant since 1980. Benefits and pensions are under siege. Our industrial base has been savaged by alleged "free" market trade polcies.

No, the Unity party has been arround for a while. not much publicity until recently.

well ya... every time the dems get their hands in there, things tend to just get f...ed up, then the control goes back to the other assholes...

its like a warped tedertoder thats barly still working.... both partys have efecivly elminated any chance for compitition from outside the two partys...

and then when we do get someone elected from outside the partys they end up screwing over that elected official... ie jessy ventura, he could have done a lot better job if the right and left of this state would have atleast tried to work with him, but no we jjust have to have a pissing match and nothing got done

And that's all due to oponion. Whether or not the government should specifically favor this "middle class" is also a matter of opinon. You're simplifying lot's of issues. Big government does not = better society.

That's stupid. Once spouse could support a family in the 60's, they just didn't need a TV, a computer, air conditioning, and all the other items needed to be considered "supporting" in the modern age. The PPP has gone up drastically, we're considering that we need more and more out of it.

Doniston says the "Unity party" has been around for a long time...how come you have been voting for Republicans all along then?

SF, on a personal level, I like you, I think you're a cool guy. I am not pinpointing you on this, but this is how I see it. The massive failure of the bush adminstration, and the mind-blowing things they have pulled (now, neither the VP or the President are in the Executive branch, are you watching the news? You guys are dying, come on, deep down you know you'd have to be peeled off of the ceilings of this was Clinton, or Kerry or any damned D) has so poisoned the Republican party and image, to the point that you really have to abandon all shame, and all intellect, to continue to support them. So you have this massive failure, and you have a lot of R's who don't know whether to shit or wind their watches, and they will never vote for a democrat, and so what do they do? All of a sudden they decide we need a third way.

I want to own everything. Let me explain this to you as calmly as I can. In case you haven't noticed, this country is f'd. We are in a war with no end in sight, we have a huge problem with health care that kills so many Americans each year that if the same amount were killed by terrorists, we would be under martial law, we have an historic gap between the rich and the poor that is growing, we have millions more living in poverty, we have stagnated real wages for the middle class, we have a middle class drowning in debt having rode for years on second and third mortgages due to rising home values; that party's over and those chickens are coming home to roost, we have federal appellate courts stacked with out of the mainstream right wingers, we have a Supreme court handing down decisions that will hurt the consumer, the laborer and all common people, we have an environmental crisis...

I am not a huge fan of one-party rule, but I understand, and clearly so, what it's going to take in order to start to undo the damage that has been wrought. And that is a swing to the left. "Democrats" in and of themselves are not the left, but among them, there will be left and populist voices, combined with the base of their party, which can and will pressure the DLC types to MOVE THEIR ASSES.

It will take years. And for those years, I will vote Dem across the board, with no apologies, and no shame.

Yes Darla even if the best president in the world is elected in 2008 it will take many many years to offset the damage the neos have done in a short time.
And the public is used to instant gratification and will not understand that. It is one thing the Rebutlikrns are counting on.
