So ridiculous. Men have been performing in drag since Shakespeare, if not before. Call the morality police, RuPaul's Drag Race is now in its 15th season.
This is true. I see it as "low hanging fruit" for the ambitious & power hungry politicos like DeSantis, Boebert, Green, Cruz, etc. The majority of America is straight, and has never really been comfortable with open homosexuality despite the various level of tolerance over the decades.
Here's my personal take on the whole mess: ever since "Stonewall" in NYC, you've had a core contingency of gay yuppies who were tired of being denied their rightful seat at the table ..... they were white, went to the right schools, did the perfunctory low wage "entry" jobs, braved the gentrification of urban neighborhoods, and so on. So why be penalized because of their sexuality? So the political aspects go into overdrive when the "AIDS" epidemic comes around ... and subsequently you have RuPaul, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, openly gay actors & characters in major TV and Movies, etc. What use to be a standard comic relief in entertainment is now nearly "mainstreamed". Also, you've had a steady increase in gay couple/single adoption/surrogacy of children, legal recognition of gay marriage to a degree and the rest for decades. What you WON'T ever have is a across the board acceptance & acquiescence to the premise that gay sex is "normal" and on par with heterosexuality.
What's really scary to me is the potential for our country to slide into a situation parallel to what's going down in Zimbabwe right now. Given the path of silent majority to neocon to teabagger to MAGA to alt-right, I dare say that is a distinct possibility.
