When President Biden said that some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset, Marjorie Taylor, Greene and crew irrupted in an uproar screaming that he was a liar.

I wish I had every dollar that was stolen from my paycheck to pay for SS. If I had I'd have retired years ago. As it however the ponzi scheme continues.

Wasn’t, exact proposal was in Scott’s recommended platform for the GOP, Biden wasn’t lying, he even prefaced it with “some,” not all, and it has been a recommendation of many on the right going back to Ryan wanting to switch over to private investment accounts

And the irony is that sure the Democrats are demagoguing the issue, just as the GOP does the same with CRT, Crime, and defunding police, works both ways

Anyone who registered on this board in 2006 remembers vast quantities of posts by Republicans seeking to undo SS as it is; either by privatizing it and turning it over to private equity managers, or by advancing legal claims that SS is unconstitutional

Scott doubles down on sunsetting all federal programs after Biden’s jab

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) on Wednesday defended his proposal to sunset all federal legislation after five years and slammed President Biden as “confused” in response to Biden’s claim at the State of the Union address that some Republicans want to sunset Social Security and Medicare.

“In my plan, I suggested the following: All federal legislation sunsets in five years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again,” Scott said in a statement following Biden’s address to a joint session of Congress.

Scott last year rankled Republicans when he rolled out a 12-point policy agenda that included the sunset proposal, which Democrats promptly began using as ammunition in the midterms.

“This is clearly and obviously an idea aimed at dealing with all the crazy new laws our Congress has been passing of late,” Scott added, denying Biden’s claim Tuesday evening that Republicans want to end Social Security and Medicare.

Biden said that “instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans, some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset,” eliciting loud boos from GOP lawmakers in the chamber.

Victims of robbery? Yes I'm one. Every dollar stolen that I will never get back would have paid for my retirement. I was told the same story >40 years ago, that SS wouldn't be there for me when I retired.

It eventually dawned on me that conservatives had been lying to me.

Yes, it was PRick Scott that made the proposal that all governmental programs sunset after five years- IF THEY ARE NOT RENEWED BY CONGRESS!

Perhaps we should let the 2nd amendment expire every 250 years- unless Congress reinstates it- JUST FOR FUNZEES! :thinking:

Scott is awful and I suspect will not get reelected. But the point is that Biden was not lying when MTG was standing up screaming "Liar" at him.

As that positions efforts from him he wrote up a plan for the future for them to stand on


It included making SS and Medicare vulnerable to being voted out of existence every five years



Giving the republicans a way to kill it next go round
