You know what backs evolution? Everything. Absolutely every single thing science finds, backs it. The way science works, if you find something that contradicts the theory, you throw out the theory. Then you revamp it or discard it. So bring one fact against it rightys. that is all you need.

Provide me the picture of MY actual great grandfather you claim I evolved from thousands of generations ago. Until then, no proof.

I'm not sure why people even debate it anymore.

It's not incompatible w/ religion or with a belief in God. I suppose for those who believe the world is only 6,000 years old or whatever it is, it would upset their beliefs - but they're ignoring a huge amount of science w/ that belief anyway.

Forget monkeys, apes, people, etc. for a minute. You've heard of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, right? Do you understand how they become resistant? Let's say you come down with a strep throat infection (caused, duh, by streptococcus bacteria). Your doc gives you a 10 day supply of ampicillin. You dutifully take it all as directed, even though after 2-3 days you feel fine again. *You* don't want to create any of those resistant nasties. Unfortunately, a few manage to survive, hiding in a gum pocket that you didn't know you have. They were exposed to the antibiotic but not enough to kill them; just enough to piss them off. They quickly evolve a resistance, and pass this on to their progency as they replicate. Ruh roh, your infection is back, meaner and uglier than before. Bacteria evolve much more quickly, of course, because they are much simpler lifeforms than a banana, a poodle, or even a science-denying Republican.

Mankind has used evolution to its advantage for thousands of years. Do you have a pet dog? Does he/she look anything like his wolf ancestors? Do you like corn on the cob in the summer? Does it resemble the maize that the indigenous Americans grew?

PS -- I'm sure you don't have gum pockets; that was just an example. If you like you can change the "you" in the story to me. Or that gross little NK dictator guy. lol

He's using the term theory in the scientific sense. Not in the common sense that you are. In the scientific sense if a theory does not have a factual basis then it's simply not a theory. In the case of the theory of biological evolution by natural selection the theory is supported by three fundamental laws of nature. Those, are the law of inheritance, the law of variation and the law of superfecundancy which are easily observable facts.
