Solar Cheaper than Grid in China

I dont think anyone is in a position to predict what the nature of power generation will be in the future. What we can say for certainty is that those that voted for trump because he said he would bring coal back are morons.

China is eating the USA's lunch...thanks Trump! History will remember you unkindly. In fact, you will be reviled and vilified.

Chernobyl was a first generation nuclear reactor, it didn't even have a containment vessel ffs. Even so that kind of accident would be impossible with 3rd gen. technology like the AP1000 or 4th gen. molten salt reactors.

How did the Chernobyl explosion happen?

On April 26th, 1986, at 1:23am, Chernobyl’s engineers disabled some of the reactor’s safety features while it was still running—as part of a safety test. A combination of human error and design flaws lead to a fire and then an explosion that blew the lid off of reactor Number 4, exposing the nuclear core and releasing into the atmosphere 400 times more radiation than was emitted when American forces dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima during World War II.

thanks.. katzgutz is an idiot

Solar panels produce far more waste than nuclear, over 300 times more!!

View attachment 11301
that is some nasty waste too,My chemistry is awful I took it 4 times and got a "D"all 3 times, but even I can recognize those chemicals as heavy metals and carcinogens

fpr all the talk I hear about "renewables" and no one ever bring up solar panel disposal

The best thing you can do for yourself is quit being a goddamn moron. This particular point has already been covered. Go back and read the thread so you don't embarrass yourself again.

fuck off. a dotard like your self isn't going to tell me what to do.
The chems were discussed - the recycling/disposal problem was not.

OK genius make yourself useful - explain why the costs and the disposal problems with solar
are still superior to nuclear power?

No it hasnt, you doddering old twat!! The small detail about how heavy metals are leached out from the panels over the course of time hasn't been addressed either. This is an environmental timebomb waiting to explode!

Here is somebody that gets it, maybe we should set up a solar panel dump in Kunzgar's backyard in Pissyville?

Last November, Japan’s Environment Ministry issued a stark warning: the amount of solar panel waste Japan produces every year will rise from 10,000 to 800,000 tons by 2040, and the nation has no plan for safely disposing of it.

Neither does California, a world leader in deploying solar panels. Only Europe requires solar panel makers to collect and dispose of solar waste at the end of their lives.

All of which raises the question: just how big of a problem is solar waste?

Environmental Progress investigated the problem to see how the problem compared to the much more high-profile issue of nuclear waste.

We found:

Solar panels create 300 times more toxic waste per unit of energy than do nuclear power plants.

If solar and nuclear produce the same amount of electricity over the next 25 years that nuclear produced in 2016, and the wastes are stacked on football fields, the nuclear waste would reach the height of the Leaning Tower of Pisa (52 meters), while the solar waste would reach the height of two Mt. Everests (16 km).

In countries like China, India, and Ghana, communities living near e-waste dumps often burn the waste in order to salvage the valuable copper wires for resale. Since this process requires burning off the plastic, the resulting smoke contains toxic fumes that are carcinogenic and teratogenic (birth defect-causing) when inhaled.

actually there is a great deal on the internet about recycling heavy metals. Your problem is that you are just being a stupid moron again.

solar is growing extremely fast in the US. Xcel Energy out of MPLS is providing installed solar for free. The conversion is happening in spite of trump and his fellow morons.

too small to read.....

that article simply states that there is no PLAN.......it doesn't say it isn't possible to recycle the lead, cadmium, and chromium......besides, in the comments someone points out that modern solar panels no longer use cadmium......

Anything can be recycled in theory but the costs are prohibitive. They will just be dumped into landfill in China, surely you know that? Conservative estimates state that there wil over 20 milion tonnes in China alone in the next couple decades.

As always Kunzgar is full of shit!! The Chinese cut back solar subsidies last year and the industry is in a state of collapse.

Funny how the renewable lobby keeps telling us how cheap solar power is. China’s solar industry is apparently falling apart at the seams, since subsidies were cut last year:

and we would do the same thing here. At least China had the excuse for some of it's "One Belt One Road" initiatives that the new cities they are building like in western China were so remote and this wasn't retrofitting.

But even there the costs are prohibitive without subsidies -and the carcinogens/heavy metals
are an ecological time bomb

There is this incredibly mistaken belief by many that renewables are eco-friendly, they are not. Obama did much to foster that notion but he was hopelessly ill-informed.

China and the US are different countries. Yes, renewables are cheaper than coal generation. Stop being such a moron. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/mar/25/coal-more-expensive-wind-solar-us-energy-study
