While I haven't previously commented on this thread, I decided to tonight.

Socialism won't solve the problem of Chinese Disease. The various pharma companies that developed vaccines did so in a Capitalist market. That is, they looked at the most cost effective and profitable means to quickly develop and test one, then used a similar Capitalist system to distribute it.

If we were to switch to Socialism to develop such a vaccine, then the government would be directing who does what research and how. There would be no incentive to do it quickly since the companies involved would make the same money regardless. Even now, Socialist methods of distribution are less effective as they don't consider the market or factors like cost and time. Instead, they would be focused on something like We want all of X group or Y minority to get the vaccine now. That means the vaccine isn't distributed efficiently but rather by political ends.

The second the government starts running the programs is the second the gears of progress become greased with sand.
