Well gee...maybe if seeing a Doctor didn't require those without insurance to take out a second mortgage just to pay for the TESTS the Doctor needs to run to determine the illness, then maybe we'd see fewer "lazy people" in the ER.

People USED to choose to be a Doctor because of an altruistic desire to help the sick and infirm.

NOW though...it's all about the Benjamins and having a bigger house than the Ob/Gyn living down the street and that is where the problem lies.
 
If you can't afford in the USA, plenty go to the free clinic and wait in line. Just like in a socialised medcine country.

No I'm not, I visit my DR once a year for my annual check up.
Two years ago I attended with a minor issue, causing some difficulty.
I was given a barrage of tests that day.
Diagnosed with a serious condition that early detection and dreatment cured.

In the UK/other nation I would have Been fobbed off repeatedly.

Post diagnosis I was given a list of specialists to research and to pick my preferred one to carry out treatment.
I chose one and called him that day.
An hour later I was in his office discussing the treatment options.
Treatment began the next day.

In a socialised system, I would not be allowed to choose my specialist, and would wait weeks for the first appointment.
Then months to get on the waiting list, then months again to get the treatment!

I know which I prefer!!

Wrong guess. Not only am I allowed to choose my specialist but I'm able to choose my hospital. There is the Jewish Hospital, the Catholic Hospital and the General/University Hospital. I have cards for each one depending on what I'm going for as each one tends to specialize in certain things. My doctor asks my preference when he refers me to a hospital. Assuming they all perform the service I require I let my doctor know I prefer the Jewish because you can't beat the pastries in their coffee shop. I'm not Jewish but I do appreciate a good pastry. :)

"Socialized medicine" is not what you and the Right Wing/Repubs make it out to be and that's the problem. Just wait until ObamaCare is fully implemented. The people will never want to return to the "pay or suffer" system.

I should mention that the car insurance is also government. :) I remember, many years ago, when it wasn't. I assure you the premiums are a lot lower under the government.

As for who pays it doesn't matter. I would receive the same care regardless.

The US survival rate for breast cancer is the highest, for colon cancer, Japan. It really depends on the type of cancer.
