snail mail to get slower

i have a friend that works at a postal sorting center as a mechanic on the sorting machines and she says that junk mail does not go through the machines

it is delivered in bundles by zip code and distributed by the carriers that give one piece to every address

I thought so...

It's the post cards we had to add the sticker to (they were folded). I was pretty sure that junk didn't go through the machines. Thanks.

Keeping jobs for the sake of keeping jobs is not sound business. It is why so many government run endeavors fail to cover costs.

While I agree with you here...and with Damo and the other gentleman who made the buggy and whip maker's point....and maybe even Jarod who groaned at me for that post, I just cannot help but to think of every cut made to a government agency there are going to be jobs cut as a result.

I understand the bottom line is the important thing. Does the P.O. provide a needed service? If not, it needs to go...or at least be tweaked so it is more efficient or whatever. I do understand this. But when you talk about the bottom line (and here I see a big difference between the right and the left) you are talking about somebody's living....and a lot of the time it is someone who doesn't have that many options for jobs, especially in these times.

I have never had that fear of not having a job. I always knew (or at least thought I knew) that if something happened to my job I'd be able to go out and get another. I've got a good mind, a good back and such. No big deal. I am finding that more and more there are fewer people with this confidence (many of whom are out of work right now with factories shipped overseas and such) and maybe it is something to do with their ability. A lot of times they really can't do much else. I hear about re-training and getting more education. I'm sorry, that might work for about 20% of folks in the real world but what about the other 80% with their kids to raise? They're going to be looking for some kind of government assistance, probably. I'm ranting now so I'll shut up. For some reason this has really bothered me today. Maybe it is because my brother has been out of steady work for a little over a year...I don't know. But when looking to fix the problems of government institutions I wish more people would look at the fact they are dealing with people and lives as well as numbers when it comes to the bottom line....and maybe show a little more compassion before they lay the ax to the roots.
