If we are going to sanction, and escalate cold war..I would at least like to see the evidence.

Trump's energy policy is anything but Russia friendly, so Putin screwed himself on that if he was meddling for Trump. Trump dropped CIA support of Syrian rebels but that actually makes sense with or without Russia---Macron is even on board with it.
That leaves the sanctions but Trump's motive there is to 'reset' our Russian relationship. Which again, makes sense [even Obama and Hillary thought so] given that we can try and get something in return. Trump is a dealer, after all.
If not, we can always re-sanction them. Apart from the hysteria, it makes perfect sense.

That's one way of looking at it.
The other is he's willing to check his own politics [what ever they are] in order to help Trump communicate his message. At the end of the day, it's a job.
We'll see how he does at it. And like someone said, he may be looking to have his own show or whatever, but I'm sure Trump couldn't care less so long as Mooch does his job and he's good at it.
