Those can be fixed, but too many extremists are stupid and/or mentally ill. No amount of discussion or education will help them. I agree, this is a trait of anyone who engages in tribal politics. I suspect that while we may be on different sides of the centerpoint, we are both closer to each other's positions than we are to the positions of the far right or the far left. It's possible Trump is scared. He's always been fearful and a bit paranoid, which is exacerbated by his age. Doctors, no doubt, have told him for years about his weight, lack of exercise, Adderall addiction, etc. Now all those unheeded health warnings may prove to be valid, resulting in a dose of COVID likely to kill him. Now, with several members of the Trump WH staff testing positive, the "no mask" policy and rumors Pence has it, Trump may be wetting his pants when confronted about this issue since he knows he might have it too.

No more than every claim of assault, robbery, rape, theft, etc. It depends upon the evidence. In the case of public officials, such claims should be taken seriously and initially investigated. If malfeasance is suspected upon initial investigation then it should be investigated further until properly resolved. Such cases always happen to people with power over those working or otherwise subservient to them. It could be Priests and alter boys, CEO and secretaries, Doctors with nurses or Presidents and interns.

To a large extent, what Trump thinks doesn't matter when dealing with large, deadly national issues like plague, war, or, as in this case, the intentional collapse of the national economy. Congress will actually start throwing their weight around since their constituents are screaming at them.
