i 'dragged' the first amendment in to this mess because it protects hate speech along with other forms of expression

and it so happens i gave my semi-automatic (it was my mother's) to my older son (i prefer a revolver as they do not jam)

by the way, it was a 9mm, i prefer a 45 caliber hand gun as it has better stopping power

as for not leaving home without a firearm, i keep mine in a gun safe and only take it out to go to a gun range

also, i support not selling assault rifles to private citizens

did you happen to read the part of my post that said that the guy probably thought that sikhs are muslims and was reacting to all of the hate speech that can be found on electronic media these days

when i was younger buttons with sayings on them were very popular, one of them said, 'support mental health or i will kill you'

i think that hate speech and the killings that it engenders suck, but as i said before, however, we cannot do away with the 1st and 2nd amendments, the killings and other violence that result from them are part of the price we have to pay for our freedom

you must get a lot of exercise jumping to conclusions

did you read all of the posts that i made on this subject, if not then i suggest that you do so before you make any more accusations

as for my comment that he only used a semi-automatic hand gun, if he had used an extended clip or an assault rifle, he would have killed a lot more people

we have sufficient gun laws on the books, it is just that not all jurisdictions enforce all of them, they are too afraid of the nra and not letting their gun dealers make big enough profits to do so

there is a national database of people restricted from purchasing firearms but it is not well maintained nor is it kept up to date by every state

nothing short of confiscating every firearm in the nation and banning the sale of any firearms will stop gun violence and that will never happen short of an amendment to the constitution

now how would you go about doing that, it would mean that every home would have to be completely searched and the grounds around them would have to be checked with a metal detector

and even then i do not think that you would get them all

do you plan on passing a law against hate speech and if so who gets to decide what qualifies as hate speech, oh and you would have to do away with the first amendment while you were at it

Silly thing to say about a nation famous throughout the world for its political satire. American propaganda must be degrees more efficient than Chinese propaganda. It really is quite surprising how many Americans honestly believe, and will argue til the cows come home, that their freedoms are unique.
Look at Hogarth, Gilray, Have I got news for you, Private Eye, The Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen, the list goes on. And we have a tendency not to get shot in cinemas and temples.

It is not unique but it is the most famous. Tower Hill was also supposed to be a place of spoken freedoms.
HPC is, as Tom says, mainly a tourist attraction now, but I can remember listening to several politicians cutting their teeth there including one of the best political orators and worst prime ministers of all time, Michael Foot.
I think the 'freedom' that it is famous for is the freedom to make inflamatory, political, racial and potentially treasonous speeches.
But in fact, just about every pub in the land has the same or better, lubricated as it is with the finest beer in the world.
