Should we repeal "Don't ask, don't tell?"

Should we repeal this atrocity?

bullshit....you didn't say full faith and credit....you were arguing the 14th P&I clause....

WRU talking about? You asked about DOMA and I answered in #70. DOMA has nothing to do with the 14th.

The privileges and immunities discussion is about your weird argument that they only apply to the states. That's just plain nuts.

and what case? link me to that....becuaes i have not seen your alleged case....

#57. Bolling v Sharpe. You know how to use Google.

you argued the P&I clause applied to the federal government....which is absolute bullshit

The privileges and immunities limited the Feds before the 14th. The whole point of the 14th was to extend them to the states.

Just the first few lines explains it as it applies here.

http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=US&vol=347&invol=497

Racial segregation in the public schools of the District of Columbia is a denial to Negro children of the due process of law guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment. Pp. 498-500.

(a) Though the Fifth Amendment does not contain an equal protection clause, as does the Fourteenth Amendment which applies only to the States, the concepts of equal protection and due process are not mutually exclusive. P. 499.

(b) Discrimination may be so unjustifiable as to be violative of due process. P. 499.

In other words, equal protection of the laws is part of the right to due process. It was not newly created in the 14th. The concept of a citizens equality before the law goes back to the Magna Carta where it is also included with due process rights. The Feds were never able to violate the privileges and immunities granted under its binding document.

The 14th just said everybody is a US citizen and though the states retain some sovereignty in how they deal with their own citizens they may not violate the rights of US citizens.

I find it odd that anyone is even arguing this.

He's been bitter ever since he declared himself a "liberal" and decided to start ignoring anything that might make him think even a little bit beyond what Huffpost tells him to think.

Hey - there's some of that irony you were talking about earlier (at the same time you were regurgitating what Glenn Beck was telling you to think)

I see you are still attempting to say that quotes from something I remember bearing resemblance to something quoted by another are "amazingly the same"...

It's a tribute to my memory that I got it that close. That Glenn Beck was able to dig them up too only supports my point that at some point when somebody, that you'll attack solely for being them and providing information, creates a compilation you'll pretend that it is an "argument" that <so and so> said it too.

There's nothing like a consistent fallacy.

Wow...are you seriously attempting to say that the facts that you were regurgitating pretty much verbatim - miraculously, without links - just happened to mirror the exact facts that were on that Beck list, from Jennings to 14 days to environmental approval drop?

Are you doing that with a straight face?

Good stuff, Damo. I admire your complete shamelessness, in a weird sort of way...

I said I saw the clips on a show, I thought it was Stossel, probably it was Beck. That you think that the source that found the stories is so important is your fallacy.

The reality was, that less than two months into a Presidency H.w. Bush took more heat for a clean up than your hero has so far for one much easier to get to... He is starting to get some of that heat, but man the media is being dragged into it...

Oh. I thought you said it was a "tribute to your memory," and you were actually talking about your memory of that period of time - you know, when it was just "bad Bush" every day of the spill, and Bush this & Bush that every day, and they were calling for his head.

Really, I don't think you should call anyone "partisan", or any variation of that word, again. But that's just me.

Yes, a tribute to my memory. I posted from memory of the clips I saw.

Why are you being so obtuse? I know! It's because it is inconvenient to the position you chose to take. I'm sorry I remembered the show that I saw the clips on incorrectly... But I did say that I saw them on a show (and I'm still not sure it was Beck as I watch that only when forced to).

BS. Every point you made today was verbatim from Beck. And, btw, the list Beck came up with was exceedingly weak. Most of the quotes I saw could have been applied to Exxon as easily as Bush - there was no indication whatsoever that people were hammering Bush in any way. Just typical Beck stuff, which you apparently adored and lapped up eagerly.

Nothing at all to support the characterization that they were "calling for Bush's head," or that it was "bad Bush every day." You're way beyond hackdom here. I can't imagine what you'd be saying about me if I was posting pretty much direct quotes from, say, Randi Rhodes, or Michael Moore.

LOL. Not really, once I found the story on Beck (because you posted that the quotes were there), he had more mentions of other stories I hadn't saw clips from or heard.

You are getting powerfully desperate to attempt to associate me with somebody whose job is to follow news and point out things like this. I kind of like that. As if the actual clips suddenly don't exist because Beck found them...

That each person attempting to attack me because I saw clips and remembered the words on them is saying the exact same thing and not talking about the reality of what they said just makes me laugh. The rich irony as you attempt to "discredit" actual video clips just because I remembered the quotes well simply because of who you think I got them from is too entertaining. Better send another PM to Nigel, so he can repeat this theme soon.

Trust me - it's not nearly as entertaining...not by a long shot...as the poster who never misses a chance to explain to other posters how partisan they are quoting Glenn Beck verbatim, and trying to pass that off as "memories."

And again...the "reality of what they said" does very little to support your extremist, and hopelessly inaccurate, characterizations of that time period.

It leaves me wondering if you even have a memory of that period, or are basing your "recollections" entirely on this mystery video clip you keep claiming to have seen, which just happens to touch on everything Beck said (and again - verbatim).

LOL again.

I'll remind you one more time, I stated in that thread that I had heard the clips on a show, said it was probably Stossel (or that I thought it might be Stossel, I'm not reading that thread right at the moment) and that I posted what I remembered from them.

That you can't get past the fact that Beck mentioned the clips doesn't hurt my point at all, it helps it. I'm glad that somebody has shown the clips, it shows that I wasn't ghosting crap from nowhere. That you helped me by finding that Beck did something with them doesn't change that they were real. It only underlines the "attack the messenger" fallacy that you rely so heavily on.

Anywho...

Before this thread is irrevocably hijacked.

Yes, we should repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I thought it was a tribute to Clinton's weakness that he was afraid to simply order them to integrate and came up with this "compromise" to begin with.
