In the nearly 40 years after he escaped from the maximum-security military prison at Fort Leavenworth, convicted killer James Robert Jones carved out a new life for himself in Florida, living under an assumed name, getting married and working for an air conditioning company.
It all came to an end this week when Jones — or Bruce Walter Keith, as the former Army private was known in Florida — was recaptured with the help of technology that was more sci-fi than reality when he broke out during the disco era: facial-recognition software.
"The first words out of his mouth were, 'I knew this would catch up with me someday,'" Barry Golden, a senior inspector with the U.S. Marshals Service, said Friday.

Mr. Cool's comment and I think I might actually agree.
So we have justice, the dead guy and his family get 'justice'. The guy lived scared a good portion of his life and he, at least what we know so far, has committed no other crime. Why not put him on probation and put him to work, instead of wasting our money taking care of this old fart.

I differ from many opinions. Sometimes I wonder if its best to just sometimes let things go. Prison is not always about revenge, it is also about rehabilitation. The man absolutely screwed up in his youth... Nobody denies. He's lived 37 years as a worker and taxpayer. He was married and had another life. His wife had no idea. He didn't even respond to his old name. Is it fair.... these things are difficult after so long of a time. Some people believe they should lock him up and throw away the key.... Unfortunately, 37 years as a "good neighbor & husband" along with being a worker is sort of hard to argue with. These cases confuse me... I know, I know, the law has no mercy. I'd probably stink as a cop. If I came across him & found him, and saw that he was living a decent life and working... I think my head would look the other way.
