I think its a long overdue idea, that should be put into effect as soon as Obama/Clinton take control, afterall bill's an avid pothead....think of the chronic the government could grow & sell, the profits will be tremendous!

I remember the rumors back in the 70's that the US Gov't grew the most potent pot ever. Supposedly at Mississippi State in Starkville.

And with our over abundance of politicians and lawyers, we have enough fertilizer to handle it.

There is also the matter of hemp being used for a multitude of thing.

Obama cannot legalize weed.

Things Obama could do:

1. Make an executive order that would stop the federal cops from raiding for weed.
2. Hire US Attorneys who would not prosecute for weed.
3. Hire an Attorney General who also would not stress marijuana prosecutions. (Already did something far different here.)

He could not, however, legalize it. He is no longer part of the Legislative Branch of the government.

We should decriminalize the use of MJ for sure, and stop putting people in prison for using drugs at all. It is ineffective to send users to prisons which are basically universities for real criminals.

Why? If you're going to decriminalize it, why shouldn't you take the next logical step and legalize it?

If you decriminalize it you still have to deal with the criminal black market selling the drug nor would you have any health and safety standards for safe distribution of the product that you would if it were legalized.

If you decriminalize it you have removed the legal consequences. The controls would be removed. Why not legalize it completely and add some control to the distribution and sale. Plus you would produce a huge revenue.

Our government has a responsibility to protect us from harm. In fact, some would argue it is the federal government's only real responsibility and function. Ingesting smoke into your lungs, no matter what kind, is not healthy for you. In my opinion, it would go against the foundational responsibility of government to legalize something known to be hazardous to your health. Save your arguments about how pot is beneficial to some, it is the delivery system which poses a problem. Any time you ingest smoke into your lungs, you are ingesting carcinogens, and putting your respiratory health at risk.

I'm not saying we should make things illegal that are bad for your health, but we shouldn't compound the problem by adding to it. If we knew then what we know now about cigarettes, it would have been wrong to legalize them as a commercial product. It is the only product sold, that if used as directed, will kill you.

Decriminalization would eliminate the onerous laws currently plaguing the pot smoker. It would free up space in our prisons, as well as resources for law enforcement, to go after much more serious drug problems. I would even be willing to accept a "medical marijuana" exemption, where doctors could prescribe it as a controlled pharmaceutical for certain patients. I just feel that complete legalization, having it sitting there on the store shelf along side cigarettes, and taxing it, is the wrong way to go.

The government has a responsibility to protect you from harm from others. Not harm you would inflict on yourself. You need to take responsibility for that harm.

I think its time we stop expecting the federal government to babysit.

Individual responsibility is the key. If you choose to do something that may harm you (and only you) then its no one's business but yours.

If we have learned anything from this past election, we should know that with the clintons where theres a will theres a way. Forget all that other stuff, if they want it legal....it will be! The Clinton Czar rules with an iron fist!

Exactly! Which is why they shouldn't allow "others" to commercially sell you pot. Decriminalization would allow you to retain responsibility for yourself. In reading your post, it sounded like we were pretty much on the same page... decriminalize it, but don't legalize it. Am I wrong?

Right, and they shouldn't allow "others" to sell beer because you can crash.

Rubbish.

You allow an age limit like any other dangerous product. We all know it is far easier for kids to get pot than beer right now, their friends bring it to them and they sell it at school.

I must now to address the one who says, 'Don't hold me responsible for what my ancestors did.' But you have enjoyed the benefits of what your ancestors did! And unless you are ready to give up the benefits — Throw away your 401 fund! [sic] Throw away your trust fund! Throw away all the money that been put away in the company you walked into 'cause your daddy and your granddaddy and your great grandaddy —

My ancestors were sharecroppers. Anything I have I earned because I worked hard.

The men who owned the companies that were sold to become the one I work for, started out with nothing. They got where they are by working hard.

*sigh* So, I guess we disagree?

Please don't draw irrelevant comparisons here. There is no relevant comparison that can be made to this particular subject. Liquor and tobacco were legal and accepted by society for years before they knew or realized any potential health risks. I clearly stated that we should not make things illegal simply because they are bad for us! Something we KNOW is bad for your health, shouldn't be legalized, taxed, and made available for commercial consumption. Pointing to things that already are, doesn't justify doing it some more!

I agree with you about pot being easier for kids to get than beer. The same can be said of crystal meth, should we start selling that in stores too? Is there any evidence that selling it in stores will prevent kids from obtaining it, if they want it? Don't you guess that if pot were legal and taxed, there would still be people growing it in their closets and selling it to kids? Better yet, the kids could just grow it in their back yard, it's a fucking weed! It's times like this I wonder about you Damo, you seem to be doing like the Democrats and talking out of both sides of your mouth... you want to give us freedom to buy pot so you can control it and tax it!
