Should Musk/trump raise the retirement age?

You do realize that only 30% or so of the federal budget is allocated to discretionary spending, and half of that is for the military, so how are you going to cut Government spending in half?
MAGA cannot be bothered by pesky details.

Who's that?
That is a hint of things to come. A year or two from now, the alt right will all be claiming to never have heard of Musk. They may even run out of other people to blame for trump's failures, and decide never to have heard of trump.

Is that so?

Who's gonna win the Super Bowl, Salty?

In 1983, it was decided to raise the retirement age by 2 months for every year born, until it reached 67 for people born in 1960. So people born in 1960 will reach full retirement age in 2027. This seemed like a reasonable deal, given that life expectancies were rising by an average of 3.5 months per year back in 1983.

Life expectancies are rising by a current average of 12 days per year, and look set to start decreasing. So talking about raising retirement age now would mean a double whammy of losing time in retirement.

And there would be no time to plan around it. The 1983 plan gave people 25 years to plan around a 2 month increase in retirement age.

If Musk/trump continues the increases for people born after 1960, they will have only 2 or 3 years to plan around an increase in retirement age.
I retired at 55, but didn't start receiving either SS or Medicare until later. I did have a little pension, however.

The life expectancy in socially regressive America is lowering, not rising.
Nobody should have to work before twenty-five or after 55.
I've enjoyed a twenty-three year retirement, with maybe a little still left,
and that looks as if it may not be in the cards for today's young people.
That sucks.

No you didn't. You asserted again. Support your point with actual citations. Otherwise I'll have to assume you just made it up because you cannot support it.

^cognitive dissonance

you seem to be completely unfamiliar with our history...which is required to be a retarded progressive I imagine

You see dear dipshit - we got called out for our lies once before. The world knew we were lying about our spending and inability to make good on our promises and called us out. And sure enough, we confessed. We could not meet our promises and unilaterally defaulted on our debts.

This is known as the Nixon shock. I don't waste my time citing things you can freely read for yourself. Or you can remain ignorant

Why don't you donate that "little still left" to the government?

Citizens who wish to make a general donation to the U.S. government may send contributions to a specific account called "Gifts to the United States."

This account was established in 1843 to accept gifts, such as bequests, from individuals wishing to express their patriotism to the United States. Money deposited into this account is for general use by the federal government and can be available for budget needs.

These contributions are considered an unconditional gift to the government. Citizens can make financial donations electronically through pay.gov or in paper form.

  • At pay.gov, you can contribute online from your bank account (ACH), PayPal, debit or credit card.
  • You can write a check or money order, payable to the United States Treasury, and in the memo section notate that it's a gift to the United States. Mail your check or money order to the address below.

It would be cool if we made a dystopian movie about an alternative past

We could show a country lying to the rest of the world about how safe it is to store your wealth with them. Eventually the world realized they are being cheated. They send a battle ship to the fort holding all the gold to collect only to find it is empty

oh wait. that is actual history. we just pretend it never happened and never teach it

Twas the night before Nixon Shock, and all through the land,
Not a dollar was stable, not a gold bar to hand.
The promises were made, Bretton Woods on the line,
That the dollar was gold-backed, steady, and fine.

But inflation was rising, and debt was a plague,
The U.S. economy was starting to sag.
The Fed printed money, the value did drop,
While across the world, the demand wouldn’t stop.

Then in Paris, a whisper, a rumor, a plea:
“Mr. Nixon, fulfill your gold guarantee!”
For France had grown weary of promises fake,
And the dollar’s true value they wished to partake.

So, what did they do, but in bold, daring style,
They sent a great battleship across the long mile.
The La Lorraine sailed with purpose and might,
To collect the gold, before it took flight.

In Washington, the news was a dreadful alarm,
As Nixon met Kissinger, hoping to charm.
"We can’t give them the gold, not even a dime,
Our vaults are all empty, our debts climb and climb!”

For the dollar was no longer backed by gold’s gleam,
It was a fiat currency—just a paper dream.
And though the world trusted, Nixon took action,
He closed the gold window, no longer an option.

The battleship arrived, and France made its stand,
Demanding the gold, as agreed on the land.
But Nixon just sighed and then shook his head,
"The gold's all gone, my friends, we’re in the red.”

The U.S. said, “Sorry, we’ve broken our pact,
But we can’t fulfill promises—we’ve just lost track.”
And so in the night, with a shudder and sigh,
The world’s economic order began to go awry.

And that’s how the dollar, no longer restrained,
Went floating on air, unbacked and untrained.
No gold in the vaults, no promise to keep,
The world watched in awe, as the old system did weep.

So here’s to the Shock, with its ripple so wide,
Changing the world on that turbulent tide.
A lesson in trust, in promises made,
And how one man’s decision forever did trade.

One of the smarter suggestions I have read in this group. That might be the real solution to America's workforce economic problems.

trump might be able to cut Social Security in half. If he chains COLA, so that it does not rise with inflation, and combines that with high inflation, that could cut inflation adjusted Social Security in half. It would be brutal, but doable.

Raising the edge of retirement would not do that. There are too many people already retired.
Not doable. Inflation adjustments can cause increases but not decreases.

The absence of an inflation adjustment causes an effective decrease in benefits. You get the same number of dollars, but it buys less.

Reagan used that backdoor Social Security cuts a little, and Musk/trump plan on using them a lot.

Reagan couldn't have done anything unilaterally and neither can Musk/Trump. Getting Congress to cancel the adjustment is pie in the sky.

trump will hold the entire government hostage, and make demands. Some of those demands will be given in on. One might be backdoor cuts to SS.

Taxation isn't voluntary. It's a legal requisite,
but since conservatives don't believe in government, they don't believe in taxes either.
They're just very primitive people, and several weeks ago, they destroyed the nation.

Taxation isn't voluntary.

Did anyone say that it was?

BTW, one can refuse to pay taxes. But's it's illegal.

Donations are entirely voluntary.

If you're so passionate about purported financial inequities, why don't your personal actions demonstrate it?

If this is a serious question, you're in serious trouble.
