No, I say smoke, eat, drink, sky dive, have unprotected sex, I don't care what your personal choices are, and I don't expect you to endorse my personal choices.

A flesh-eating drug that turns people into zombie-like creatures seems to have made its way to the United States.

This extremely addictive injectable opioid is called krokodil (pronounced like crocodile) or desomorphine. It's so named in part because users report black or green scaly skin as a side effect.

This weekend five people were hospitalized in the Chicago suburb of Joliet, Illinois, with symptoms similar to cases reported recently by health care providers in Arizona and Oklahoma.

Dr. Abhin Singla said he suspects a woman he treated this weekend was suffering from krokodil addiction. Singla is an internist and addiction specialist at Joliet's Presence St. Joseph Medical Center. The patient lost significant portions of her legs, he said.

"It's a zombie drug -- it literally kills you from the inside out," Singla said. "If you want way to die, this is a way to die."

I say keep all unlawful drugs illegal. At least it shows that we're not throwing in the towel.

You are paying for it now. Giving them free food, free board, and a criminal record that keeps them from working again, meaning you're paying for them until they die. If they're non-functioning addicts, that kills them faster doesn't it? So wouldn't you want to reduce your bill and get rid of druggie scum?

You deal with their actions. You try to educate as much as possible, then let them make their choice. If they do harm to another person or their property while using a substance that distorts their cognitive abilities in any way, too bad for them, they pay the price at that point. If they die as a result of their actions, that is the consequence of their choices... which is how we deal with alcohol, tobacco etc...

If someone wants the 'thrill' of playing chicken with a train, no amount of laws are going to stop them from trying. We can only tell them how unbelievably retarded that idea is and warn them of what may happen should the train win. Same with Coke, Meth etc...

Are the laws that prohibit impaired driving etc. also foolish?

Again, either way, if the person cannot afford treatment, then yes, we the taxpayers will pay. In one case you add on the costs of trial, prison etc... and in the other it is just the treatment. Putting them in jail does not reduce costs, it increases them. It also creates longer term problems rather than solutions.

Yeah, that works great when the 'war' is going so badly. Even if you're losing beyond all hope of victory and reason, better not surrender.

We should abandon the War on Poverty, the War on Terror, and the War on Crime for the same reasons?

For the most part regarding more serious drugs that kill people. Selling should be illegal, owning a small amount for personal use should not be a crime. A cause for concern, a symptom of an illness, yes, but a crime, no.

Most other drugs like marijuana and even cocaine, they should be legal to sell but highly regulated. Much like alcohol.

Yes to all three. None of them are working.

That does not mean we should not try to help those in need, but we are obviously going about it in the wrong manner.
