watermarx, i was assuming you were in favor of life setences for assault with a deadly weapon.

What?

I pretty much think that life sentences should be reserved for aggravated murder and sexual predators. AWDW is a terrible crime but a life sentence for it would be extremely harsh.

so if I beat you about the head and shoulders but not kill you or leave you maimed for life, i'd be ok?

Note how Watermark, through the wording of his poll, lies about the original debate which was about an individual with a LONG history of criminal behavior that included armed robbery AND AWDW.

Now, to answer the poll AS WORDED, the answer is no, AWDW along with a single additional minor crime should not end with a life sentence. But if a person gets a felony AWDW (using a firearm), if following a long history of criminal behavior (many offenses of which were probably plea-bargained down from what should have been felonies) then yes, a life sentence is an appropriate reaction by society to protect itself from the criminal.

If you actually beat him about the 15 times. Fist I'd thank you, then say yeah jail time is in order.
