Wow .. that's exactly what my dog did to my wife when was dying.

I say this to people all the time .. if you leave this life without ever having a personal relationship with a dog, you will leave this life without knowing one of nature's great wonders.

It's amazing relationship that you cannot have with any other creature .. including another human.

Most of mine have been strays I've taken in. My friends gave me a couple and I bought two semi-trained hunting dogs.

I can understand buying trained ones.

But there are so many beautiful dogs in pounds .

I have a dog I rescued and a cat. They are the best, they seem to know they were rescued.

Our cats are all rescues from various places... but, ahem, we were PLANNING to get our dogs from a shelter when friends of ours with Pomeranians had a litter of six puppies.... so instead of short-haired, medium-sized mutts we ended up with long-haired small purebreds. But they are SO CUTE and have just awesome personalities! And luckily they are big for pommies which is important in the country...

Really, we did mean to go to the shelter...but how could we say no? They're 8 years old now and just wonderful. And they did chase off a bear that was leaning in our window a few years ago!
