She wanted to buy her grandkids a bike for Christmas. Then came the shutdown.

71 years old and only has saved a week's worth of wages. I think we see the problem here and it isn't the government shutdown

Daddy is nowhere to be found and Mommy is too busy humping her multiple boyfriends,so it falls to the grandmother to buy the bike.

You’re 71 you idiot. Try starting a savings account.

She works for a contractor, not the government.

She lives in Hagerstown, so she can afford a 75 mile (each way) commute.

She’s 71 and commutes 150 miles each way.

This article smells.

Yeah, fuck people, Merry Christmas-n-shit. MAGA.

Estimating the Number of Homeless in America
Statistics Show that America’s Homeless Problem Is Getting Worse

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), there were roughly 554,000 homeless people living somewhere in the United States on a given night last year. A total of 193,000 of those people were "unsheltered," meaning that they were living on the streets and had no access to emergency shelters, transitional housing, or Safe Havens. Despite a booming stock market and strong economic growth, a large swathe of America is still struggling to make ends meet.

America's homeless population rises for the first time since the Great Recession
America’s homeless population has risen this year for the first time since the Great Recession, propelled by the housing crisis afflicting the west coast, according to a new federal study.
The study has found that 553,742 people were homeless on a single night this year, a 0.7% increase over last year. It suggests that despite a fizzy stock market and a burgeoning gross domestic product, the poorest Americans are still struggling to meet their most basic needs.

State of Homelessness
The State of Homelessness in America charts progress in ending homelessness in the United States. Using the most recently available national data, it is intended to serve as a reference for policymakers, journalists, advocates, and the public on trends in homelessness, homeless assistance, and at-risk populations at the national and state levels.

Proverbs 22:22-23
“Do not rob the poor because he is poor, nor oppress the afflicted at the gate; For the Lord will plead their cause, and plunder the soul of those who plunder them.”

Proverbs 14:31
“He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he who honors him has mercy on the needy.”

Deuteronomy 24:14-15
“You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy…each day you shall give him his wages, and not let the sun go down on it, for he is poor and has set his heart on it; lest he cry out against you to the Lord, and it be sin to you.”

Isaiah 61:1
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”

Zechariah 7:10
“Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart against his brother.”

James 2:2-4
“For if there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, ‘You sit here in a good place,’ and say to the poor man, ‘You stand there,’ or ‘Sit here at my footstool.’ Have you not shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?”

What specifically smells? 50-80 mile each way commutes are not that unusual in my area especially for people who work in medicine.

They are very unusual in my area, especially in medicine where surgeons/specialists are called in for emergency surgeries.
That said, she wouldn't have received another paycheck before Christmas anyway, she should have bought the bike beforehand.

Daddy is nowhere to be found and Mommy is too busy humping her multiple boyfriends,so it falls to the grandmother to buy the bike.

Or the daughter wasn't able to go college with a mother who worked as a JANITOR and is likely stuck in the same paycheck to paycheck life her mom is.

Posters, which do YOU think is the most likely scenario from the 2 choices above?

Neither.

WOW! Poster doesn't even take CHRISTMAS DAY off to punch down.

U.S. retail sales strongest in years

Sales rose 5.1% between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24 from a year earlier, according to Mastercard. Shoppers delivered the strongest holiday sales increase for U.S. retailers in six years, according to early data.

“Wall Street is running around like a chicken with its head cut off, while Mr. and Mrs. Main Street are happy with their jobs, enjoying their best wage increases in a decade,” said Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners, a retail research and consulting firm.

Sales have been generally strong throughout the holiday season, led by increases in online shopping. Retailers entered the holidays with momentum as online sales jumped 26.4% from a year earlier between the Wednesday before Thanksgiving through Black Friday, one sign of an early buying surge, according to Adobe Analytics.

We have only 1 local hospital that is for profit, run like crap, and have a take us or leave us attitude toward workers and patients. As a result, a lot of top shelf people will commute to one of the larger nearby cities. Because our hospital and its network is run like crap a couple of those nearby hospitals have set up clinics in our city since crap for profit has managed to keep those hospitals from building their own in our city and run air medivacs which also has some of their medical staff rotating from where they are at to and from these clinics to provide both pre-surgery diagnosis and post-surgical follow up care (especially for heart patients). The long and short of it is that they are trying to reach around our fair weather facility and get to the patients before they are circling the drain in the local butcher shop. These are 4 lane 65 MPH highway commutes so 50-80 mile commutes are only like an hour hour fifteen minutes. Hell, the next county over lost their only hospital and those people have to go further just to get anything.

Wish I had taken a photo of the possibly worst hospital billboard I have ever seen that they put up at one point. It read basically like, "In the event of a heart attack or stroke, seconds matter, so you have no choice but to come to our hospital, so suck it up, snowflakes, we've got you by the balls".

How many of the homeless have you personally taken in? Practice what you preach.

Either way, Democrats shutting down the government because they don't want border security, is a bad idea.

And one they will pay for dearly, in good time

Neither one. The obvious scenario is that bleeding hearts like you think someone should have gone to college yet personally refused to pay the tuition for the person.
