Senate Republicans say Trump should be held accountable for riot -- but not by them

To Senate Minority Whip John Thune, former President Donald Trump's actions ahead of the deadly Capitol riot are totally indefensible.

"No -- not at all," the No. 2 Republican said when asked if he can defend what Trump did. "The way he handled the post-election, both in terms of his public statements and things that he tried to do to change the outcome, no."

With the impeachment trial for Trump set to begin February 9, Senate Republicans are criticizing him without doing anything about his actions, hoping to put distance between themselves and the former President without casting any votes that could cause a backlash from Trump and his fervent supporters. Many say something should be done about what Trump did -- but just not by them.

like when the teabaggers were first welcomed into the GOP clown car after Obama crushed it in 2009 and had such high popularity numbers, the GOP sold its soul long term for short term political gain in most backward, almost all white states with mostly elderly voters who somehow believed this shit. that led slowly but surely to a total fool spewing bigoted, xenophobic, fake christian, fake patriotic shit to those same goons like Trump, winning the GOP nomination, and then, in a perfect storm, somehow winning the electoral college vote.

now, the majority of repubs who are not batshit crazy still have to defend trump, or at least not publicly condemn him, OR BE PRIMARIED, as the loony tune teabagger/trump stooge disease has infected such a large portion of the republican voting bloc.
