Sen. Tom Cotton: Our National Guard's Capitol mission is complete – it's time to send home the troops

The National Guard soldiers who deployed to protect the Capitol this month certainly deserve such gratitude. They deployed on short notice, leaving behind their families and jobs.

Despite cold weather and uncomfortable conditions, these soldiers did their duty, in the finest traditions of the Guard. Their presence, coupled with tough federal charges against the Capitol rioters, deterred any further violence; the presidential inauguration occurred without incident.

With the inauguration complete and threats receding, now it’s time, yes, to send home the troops.

I agree, They were never needed, the democrats knew this which is why not a single one had a magazine loaded or not on them, they were props who when they were done with were unceremoniously dumped in a parking garage. It['s time to send the Pretorian guard home

Most have been sent home. There has been a strong draw down.

Should we send the remainder home based on Cotton's say? Call me suspicious, but why should we trust someone who supported the terrorists? In fact, his statement we should send them all home makes me wonder if it might be a mistake to have sent most of them home.

After 9/11, for years we had the National Guard on the streets of NYC, and protecting the airports. Having a few National Guardsmen cleaning up a week later seems reasonable by comparison.

It was an elaborate dog and pony show.

so you compare this riot to 911?

really?

if there is such a threat, why are the guard troops unarmed?

I think only 5k of the 25k have been sent home.

To compare this with 9-11 is disgraceful.

You were military and don’t understand a show of force?

I was and I do.

A "show of force" against a threat that they new wasn't real? why would they need a "show of force" against our own citizens, there was no chatter about another riot at the inauguration.

they want them there until march even though there is no call or threat of another riot.
