Sen. Feinstein calls Snowden's NSA leaks an 'act of treason'

Isn't it a little difficult though to condemn China for snooping when the US does as much if not more?

apples/oranges......the US is gathering data on whether telephone #A had ever called telephone #B......the Chinese are hacking US National Security computer systems and copying weapons blueprints......I sense a subtle difference.......

They are doing more than that. Have you ever asked how they suddenly had tapes of the Boston Bombers calling their mother? Do you really believe the "official" narrative?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Data_Center

The data center is alleged to be able to capture "all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Internet searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital 'pocket litter'."[2] In response to claims that the data center would be used to illegally monitor emails of U.S. citizens, a NSA spokesperson said, "Many unfounded allegations have been made about the planned activities of the Utah Data Center, ... one of the biggest misconceptions about NSA is that we are unlawfully listening in on, or reading emails of, U.S. citizens. This is simply not the case."

Yeah, it is "not the case"... they don't "listen in" they just keep them on hand and listen later... It's like saying they don't watch a broadcasted program on TV because they have it on DVR...

According to Snowden, they listen in to what they want and gather after the fact warrants only if the calls/emails/data are relevant, otherwise they simply have access whenever they feel the need to "check".

Are you okay with this?

Not they use "unlawfully" in the sentence, they aren't "unlawfully" doing it because our representatives have written laws that allow this breach of rights.

to be honest, its the first I've heard they had tapes of them calling their mother.....I find it highly unlikely the government tapes all phone calls.......when I think of the storage limits of even my emails, I think it absurd to believe the government keeps a copy of every call, email, twitter of every person everywhere, forever........

about twenty miles from me, near Allegan, MI there is a listening post set up back in the 50s......they have mile after mile of antennas and word is that they had the capability of listening into every radio, ham, and CB communication in the country........on the property is a building about twenty feet by twenty feet.......two guys used to sit there and monitor all of that.......should we have been worried?.......

oh.....look......http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/04/russians_secretly_taped_moms_calls

No I'm not. It means they can take a fishing expedition when ever they want.

Is Snowdon any different than Bradley Manning?

I can't decide and I am really torn on this issue, but I lean to the side of the leakers, especially when they are leaking to expose the govenment and not to sell the USA out. Otherwise, our government becomes to secrets for its own good.

Good comment. I think most of us are torn. But more openness is good, so at least we know what's going on and we can try to influence it.

actually yes. Bradley Manning basically took 500k documents and threw them out into the ether, with little regard for whether or not there could be sensative information that could cause harm to our troops etc. He figured there would be some bad shit in there, and he was right.

Snowdon on the other hand had access to lots of information, terrible stuff, and was very methodical in what he released so that nothing could blow back and put those in harms way (other than those doing the snooping).

That said, I am not really anti-manning either. I think having some chaos and the potential for information to always be freed is something important. Keeps government on its toes.

Thank you, I was trying to pin point what the difference is and you have done so nicely.

Good thing we have your example.

Nothing says "educated" than a meme often used by 12 year old posters when they post on their game boards.

His said quote your era, I do it as well to let my Youngins know I am talking their game, but I am money, and you can't hang, so later, lol

Politically Correct is what you learn when you are a toddler. Basic things like "don't say Hey Retard"

Politics is what you learn when you get older and mature and actually know how to think before speaking based on emotion.

Pathetic..

Take your Politically correct and shove it up your arse, it's called manners, and kindness, even the golden rule! Politically correct is B.S and for pussies who are afraid to tell it like it is

the patriot act was altered when the dems got control.

Its not the same act as under Bush.

I dont mind the type of info they collect but I do mind if they go after individuals without warrents like Bush did and Obama has not done

I hope they pay you well to spin like that!

What I find interesting is that Snowden apparently was an IT guy; he basically seems to have come across this info while doing admin stuff. Not a super-spy, not an inside guy. And only 29.

He may end up regretting this.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2339268/Edward-Snowden-IT-geek-Americas-wanted.html

Some thoughts are that's why some of the initial info was not quite right - they may not be going directly to the servers of the companies listed in Prism, although they are accessing data from them; but since he just had the powerpoint, he didn't realize all the details.

One person's traitor is another person's whistleblower. Rather than arguing definitions, better to keep learning more about the program and leaning on representatives to change the laws if we don't like this. And I don't like it. I didn't like the Patriot Act either, but apparently that didn't keep it from being passed... sigh.

But yeah, I would expect officials in govt to consider this young man a traitor. But that's a side issue.

I believe he was a network administrator hence he would have known the ingress and egress traffic from the firewalls through the routers and switches. He was paid around $200,000 per year which means that he was pretty high up in the technical pecking order.
