I am saying he is irrational. He seems to truly beleive all his lies.

What lie??? What have I been irrational about??? Is THIS going to be how pinheads try to win the 2012 elections? Just bow up and demogogue everything all the time, whether it has significance to the conversation or not? I mean, you people are hitting an all-time low for immaturity, and I really didn't believe that was even possible.

From where I sit, and granted it is not as close to the goal as you, the 'pinheads' (quaint little phrase) won't need to try in the 2012 election. The world needs a sensible and prudent America and there seems little doubt that it will be an America with a Democrat president and that president will be Obama.
Not because he is the second coming but that we are still smarting (and reeling) from the eight 'stupid america' years under bush and nothing will persuade any thinking person that a return to the jack booted stomping as part of the PNAC will EVER again be permitted..

Well, if we re-elect the Socialist Marxist president, we can kiss America goodbye forever.... she's done! I know that will make you giddy over in the UK, because you may once again assume world superpower status, but the Brits have a way of screwing the pooch every time they attain such a position in the world, and it will only be a matter of time before history repeats itself... only, next time you need someone to come save you from the bad guys, there won't be a USA... I guess you can call France?

Eliminating the entire military? Why is this being discussed?

It's what Onzies recommended yesterday, as a means to balance the budget. He was elated that we could completely defund our military and pay half the Obama deficit for this year. Of course, he never did say where the other half of the deficit would come from, or what we are going to do when some other country invades us because we no longer have a military... I guess he hasn't thought all of that through, he was just so excited he found a way to pay HALF the Obama deficit for one year!

Actually, Dix, Onzies recommended a 40% cut in military spending. Conservatives will never have credibility on spending reduction if they don't talk about significant military cuts.

Carry on, though...

Yes, initially, that is what you posted. Then I informed you that 40% cut in military spending amounted to virtually nothing, and you could cut it 100% and it would only pay for 6 months of the Obama deficit, to which you said... great! six months of debt in one cut! Now, I know you were just being cute, but I took it to mean you thought we should cut the military by 100% to cut the Obama deficit in half. Since you wanted to be cute, I returned the cuteness and asked you what we were going to do when Mexico came and took over because we no longer had a military. And here we are!

Okay... back to what you actually proposed:

"Cut military by 40% and privatize Social Security."--Onzies

Fair enough? Isn't that your exact words?

Okay... 40% of the military budget is roughly $265 billion, that still leaves about $1 trillion of the $1.2 trillion deficit for FY 2010.

Social Security is not part of the general budget, so it doesn't matter what you do with it. The only social security money involved in the $1.2 trillion deficit, is the interest on the money we've borrowed from the trust fund. You can't 'privatize' that, you have to pay it, or pay back the money borrowed. Same with the interest on the national debt.. we can't cut that.. we either pay it or pay the debt.

Just for the sake of educating pinheads, let's discuss this idea of cutting the military spending by 40%.... just say we do that.... what do you suppose happens next? We've announced a 40% across the board cut in military funding... it's reality... what happens next? Have you even thought about that? Has it occurred to you, most of the "military funding" is in the form of contracts and operational costs of bases and facilities? What happens when a defense contractor loses it's contract? Do they continue to pay employees to stand around with their finger up their butts, or what? When a military base closes in some small podunk town, which has grown into a decent-sized thriving community due to the base... what do you suppose will happen there? Will the businesses who have located there, just continue to remain open and not have business anymore, because the base closed? What do you suppose happens to all those people who work at all the malls, restaurants and clothing stores? The military base has always supported the businesses, even when times were tough elsewhere, the military towns remained stable..even grew in some cases.

So when you talk about cutting the military budget, this is something you really need to think about. It's not like cutting funding to NEA... or even Education... yeah, you'd have some teachers lose jobs and some art galleries would close... but entire towns wouldn't dry up and blow away, leaving thousands of people with no job or hope for a job.

Can waste be found and cut? Sure! I have no problem with doing a complete proctological exam on the Defense Department, and getting rid of the waste and redundancy, but this needs to be done in a very careful and deliberate way, not with some politicized sweeping across the board cut, because pinheads just want to be defiant. But even with these cuts, even with cuts as extreme and ridiculous as some have proposed, it isn't a drop in the bucket to the problem of the national debt, and the solution can't be found here. It's silly liberal demagoguery at it's finest, and if it weren't such a serious matter, it would serve you idiots right to get exactly what you want here... close the bases, cut the military in half... see what happens to your anemic economic recovery then!

So you support the government subsidizing jobs. Talk about being Socialist!

As for what the defense contractors will do they can do anything and it will be to the advantage of the US citizen. The contractor is paying it’s employees and the government is paying the contractor. So, instead of making, say, army uniforms the company starts making shirts and jeans. Considering the government is paying the contractor anyway the contractor can give away all the shirts and jeans it produces.

Retool mechanical shops to make fridges and stoves. Considering the government is paying anyway the contractor can make fridges and stoves for the general population and either give them away (the government is paying) or sell them at cost price that will result in a big savings for the government plus it will result in competitors lowering their price. A win-win for everyone.

Just the 30,000 troop withdrawal suggested by Obama could result in an additional 30,000 public servants at no additional cost to the US taxpayer.

That’s the problem with taxes. The money is not used for the benefit of the US citizen. Taxpayers are paying people to work in another country building roads and schools when those same people should be building roads and schools in the US. Is this so difficult to follow?

Socialist Marxist??? Are you completely off your trolley?
We want an America we can respect, an America that respects others, an America that has looked in its mirror and realised just who and what it is. We want the myth, dreamed up by successive Hollywood governments, to be seen for what it is and the good people of America to join the rest of the human race as worthwhile contributors.
I doubt that anyone, not even Thatcher (sorry, she is now called Cameron,) looks to becoming a superpower. Unlike you we know who we are.

What the Seven-Million-Dollar Man and his newly deficit-obsessed pals ignore is the fact that cutting any federal spending will negatively impact the economy. If the government stops spending, defense contractors aren't the only ones affected.

Pretending that cutting social programs and entitlements that conservatives don't like without increasing revenues is a solution is ridiculous, and as far as I can tell, the whole "deficit crisis" has been trumped up by the right because they can't come up with anything else to blame Obama for.

I love Dixie's argument. Unless we can cut the deficit completely & immediately, we should never cut any spending at all.

And I also love the argument that cutting 40% of the miliary budget would be "virtually nothing."

Planet Dixie.

No, I don't support government subsidizing jobs, if you want to close military bases, go for it! I just wanted you to understand the ramifications. When the economic despair sets in, and you have tens of thousands MORE people out of a job, with no hope for a job... you can't blame it on Republicans.

As for what the defense contractors will do they can do anything and it will be to the advantage of the US citizen. This is almost too idiotic to respond to... really! So the government is just going to continue paying for uniforms, but instead, the contractor is going to make shirts and jeans and give them away to the general public??? How does this "CUT THE MILITARY BUDGET?" Seems you are still paying out the same money, you haven't cut spending one penny! Only now, we have the government making jeans and shirts... have you even considered the private companies who are in business to make jeans and shirts, who wouldn't be able to compete with the government giving their product away for free? Have you thought about all the retail stores which sell jeans and shirts, who would have to close their doors because now the government is giving away those things? Not only have you NOT cut spending, you have destroyed a lot of capitalism in the process!

Retool mechanical shops to make fridges and stoves. A win-win for everyone.

First of all, you can hardly retool a munitions plant to make stoves and refrigerators. The machinery that makes fighter jets and night vision systems, can't be "retooled" to make appliances. Even if this were possible, what about the private sector companies who make appliances? How can they compete with free stuff from the government? And better yet, how does this idea cut the spending? I would think, changing a tank factory over to a stove factory, might cost a few million dollars....so you are actually ADDING to the debt instead of CUTTING spending.

Just the 30,000 troop withdrawal suggested by Obama could result in an additional 30,000 public servants at no additional cost to the US taxpayer.

We're talking about cutting military spending... 40% is what was suggested... now you have completely abandoned that, huh? We're going to spend billions "retooling" factories to make free stuff and have the soldiers work in the factories? ....I mean really.... have you seen someone about your crack addiction?

That’s the problem with taxes. The money is not used for the benefit of the US citizen. Taxpayers are paying people to work in another country building roads and schools when those same people should be building roads and schools in the US. Is this so difficult to follow?

Yes, with YOU it's completely impossible to follow, and not believe you are either retarded, insane, or on drugs... or maybe all three!

Uhm... Yeah... 256 billion is "virtually nothing" compared to 1.2 trillion.
