A man who set himself on fire on the National Mall in the U.S. capital has died of his injuries, which were so severe that authorities will have to use DNA and dental records to identify him, District of Columbia police said.

The man died Friday night at a Washington hospital where he had been airlifted, Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, said.

That image made me cry. Was he a terminally ill patient affected by the shutdown? I can only guess that as a possible reason for such a horrible choice. So very sad. gonna cry again.

I've seen this kind of severe protesting before. I wait to find out, what was he doing? Was it elaborate and painful suicide or was it severe protesting? Will we know the truth?
