SCOTUS:Trump can’t use Tariffs

Supreme Court rules that Trump’s sweeping emergency tariffs are illegal

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion and the court agreed 6-3 that the tariffs exceeded the law.

“The president asserts the extraordinary power to unilaterally impose tariffs of unlimited amount, duration, and scope,” Roberts wrote for the court. “In light of the breadth, history, and constitutional context of that asserted authority, he must identify clear congressional authorization to exercise it.”

They (incorrectly) ruled that he can't impose tariffs under a particular statute because the word "regulate" under that statute apparently allows him to do basically anything except for implementing tariffs (or something like that, so the majority of the supreme court says). He'll just reinstitute basically all of those tariffs under different statutes, so it's not the "win" that you think it is.

"Descend" they did. They know when to turn down Trump's low road when they see it. As for the majority, Trump speaks about the justices as if they are disobedient employees, finding another opportunity to make an ass of himself.
I don't care what you think about how Trump talked about the court. Also, I seem to remember you idiots have been crying for months about the SC being in Trump's pocket. Is that still a libtard belief??

Besides, I believe that the Trump administration should ignore this ruling. The interesting thing when it comes to a ruling is that it relies on enforcement, and it is up to the Trump administration to enforce, to choose whether or not to enforce such a ruling. So, just continue on like it never happened. What can they do??

It relies on compliance. When the executive branch no longer obeys rulings of The Supreme Court our constitutional system is gone.

Yes, and no... Depends upon whatever answer supports their most current whim.

Right, but it's best politically (which matters for the upcoming midterms) that they don't ignore it. Thankfully, in this case, it isn't necessary for them to ignore this ruling. Their next move will be to shift as many tariffs as possible that were implemented via this particular "emergency" statute to being implemented via a different statute. I'm sure that the Admin was already well prepared for this potential SCOTUS outcome.

IOW, this isn't in any way/shape/form a KO against Trump or his tariffs. It's just a soft punch against them that can (and will) easily be taken in stride.

The Supreme Court said that one of his methods wasn’t allowed but confirmed that the others are. So he will increase the cost on the allowable tariffs to make up the difference, and his remaining tariffs are now certified allowable by SCOTUS.
Bingo. Let the Leftists have their little fake moment of "victory", because it is actually anything BUT... Ultimately, the tariffs will all remain in place.
