scared?: al gore bails on copenhagen

I don't care if you trust me, or if the left sees me as a "friend." Half of this argument is political, because the stuff that actually matters - you know, going green & all that - relies on POLITICS.

I don't dismiss the IDEA of AGW; I dismiss that it is proveable in any way. All AGWers have is coincidence - the timing of the industrial revolution. But they ignore the frequency of warming periods in the past, the fact that we might actually start cooling for the next 2 decades, and natural triggers like solar flares & CO2 trapped at the bottom of the ocean and in ice caps, among other factors.

It's a big picture, and no one really talks about it. The Rush crowd focuses only on things like solar flares & volcanoes, and the AGWers focus only on what bolsters their argument. You talk to me about politics, but it's politics that keeps you cherrypicking.

None of it matters; you hate the messenger, but the only message that I have is that it is ovah for AGW, and it is, whether I say it or not.

No it's not.

Nice.

You claim to understand the science. Do you realize that if they followed the most stingent global proposal for cutting emissions immediately, it wouldn't make a damned bit of difference in the effective concentration of C02 in the atmosphere, or even come close to slowing the trend?

Do you also understand that once the earth warms to a certain point, it starts releasing much more C02 in the form of natural elements which are currently frozen in ice or trapped in the ocean?

According to some analysis.

Cap and trade and alternative energy research is worth pursuing even if it doesn't affect temperatures.

If we go into runaway greenhouse gas emissions that threaten us with global and universal extinction, we'll have to cross our fingers and attempt to deal with it through geoengineering.

Right, those are the internationalist fascists who just want control of the worlds energy usage.

They'll try to marketize our assholes if we don't ignore their stupidity and elitism.

And monkey might fly out of my butt.:good4u:

Alt energy R&D is absolutely worth pursuing. Reduction in pollution helps clean up our air, water and land and thus.... our health.

Reduction in the use of fossil fuels also reduces our dependency on foreign oil.... which helps not only our national security, but also our economy.

Cap and trade is a fiasco. It is a blatantly ignorant concept. If you want to encourage the polluters to clean up... then a straight tax on the pollutants makes far more sense as it still 'punishes' the polluters without providing financial windfalls to companies that did little to nothing to earn them.

That said... sooner or later people have to learn that taxing corporations (whether it is their income or emissions) is simply a hidden tax on individuals.

Corporations are simply pieces of paper that possess no money. They cannot 'pay' taxes. It is either the individuals who own the company or the end consumer that end up paying the taxes.

Tax the dividends, tax the cap gains... that will tax any benefit the owners get.

The rest... well that just gets passed on to the consumer.
