Rebecca Sycamore, interim chief executive of St Mungo’s, a homelessness charity, said: “We see every day the very real and very harsh reality of this financial crisis.

“And with more price increases, and the colder weather coming, it is very likely many of those currently just scraping by will no longer be able to manage, and could be at real risk of losing their homes.”

UK POUND CRASHES
Pound crashes as markets lose confidence in government

This is turning into an absolute rout on the pound, as the markets give a scathing verdict to Kwasi Kwarteng’s unfunded tax cuts and extra spending.

Having dropped through $1.10 earlier this afternoon, sterling has continued to crash….. all the way down to a new 37-year low of $1.09.

The pound has lost 3.5 cents today, cratering by 3% – on track for its worst day since the market panic of March 2020 when the pandemic hit.

I feel the pain of my many UK friends who have had this unelected bunch of scoundrels foisted upon them in the guise of a ' government '.

It appears that the UK's only salvation will be a return to the European Union- and that will take years- and socialist leadership. Capitalism has brought us all to the verge of extinction.

Economic and Social Research Institute analysis found ‘substantial reduction in number of products traded’

Trade from the UK to the EU is down 16% on the levels anticipated had Brexit not happened, a new report has found.

Meanwhile trade from the EU to the UK has dropped even further, by 20%, relative to a scenario in which Brexit had not occurred, according to research published on Wednesday by the Economic and Social Research Institute.

Tens of thousands of protesters have marched through central London, waving EU flags and calling on the UK to rejoin the European Union.

Thousands of Britons who gathered from across the UK in a protest called the National Rejoin March, walked from Park Lane to Parliament Square in London, calling Brexit a failure.

'Brexit has enabled the UK to follow its own path as a global power, having the aspiration not only to secure “higher value” trade agreements than it used to have as part of the EU’s common market, but also to deploy its “soft power” effectively on the world stage. Yet so far, the unpleasant truth behind all of the political rhetoric from Westminster is that British exports have crashed as a result of Brexit, and that progressively since WW1, the British Empire of the 19th century has been systematically dismantled to the point that it no longer exists.

The harsh reality is that the UK’s reach and influence in the world has dramatically declined over the past 100 years. Faced with autocratic regimes now ruling over half of the world’s population, soft power based on the rule of law and democratic order are simply no match for hard military power and a total disregard for international law, whenever this be found to stand in the way of an Empire’s “growth”.

Even looking beyond the Commonwealth, whilst it may be expedient for many other countries to still “like” the UK as a friendly nation, no major power sees the UK as a serious power or true peer. Instead, having cast ourselves adrift from the EU, we stand alone, as a small island and a benevolent trading nation that remains very much dependent on others for much of its food and natural resources.

My own personal view is that the power of schadenfreude pervading among the ex-colonies will hamper the UK for generations- although a Britain of independent states, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, would fare better than a single state ruled by the English.

Brexit was carried by regional, native Englishmen. They voted to close their borders to block the looming invasion of a zillion, stinking, unassimilatible Islamists and thereby defend their culture. Something America would do well to well to emulate. Actually, scratch that; the US is now past the point of demographic no return.
