Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt & Bahrain cut ties with Qatar

You shouldn't be surprised, Qatar has been linked with terrorism for years. I do think it's funny that Saudi Arabia is throwing stones though.

I have a feeling that things are about to get diplomatically interesting. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have cut ties with Qatar and in some instances are expelling Qataris. The reason is Qatar's alleged sponsoring of terrorism. Certainly the Wiki entry for Qatar had already been updated this morning.

Although I can never see the Islamic world giving up its eternal quest for a world Caliphate it could be that the four nations would rather take the safer route of conversion by genuine persuasion and an Islamic Renaissance rather than by war. This would leave Islam knocking on doors with Korans, rather than rifles to gain converts. After all, a rich, vibrant, forward looking Islamic country is better than a festering rubble heap of the kind that parts of Syria have been reduced to, or even worse a dusty radioactive crater.

So will there be an effort to modernise or is it just another trick to take the heat off of the region following multiple attacks in multiple countries? I think both, or in the worst analysis it could be just a tactic to give terror groups time to re-group, re-train and re-arm.

Let me guess, you were on your way to Thailand.

I'm surprised it took Egypt this long, they have a lot of reasons to ostracize Qatar.
I was on my way to Vietnam and then Thailand if you must know. Maybe you should get off your arse and do some travelling rather than staying up to 3-4 in the morning zonked out on crack?

I don't smoke crack, that's for the lower classes. And you couldn't afford Thailand? Vietnam is just a cut rate Thailand.

Btw, why were you surprised by this? Egypt has a lot of reasons to cut ties with Qatar and Bahrain does too now that Saudi Arabia has a case of the ass.

These countries are expelling Muslims in some instances lol?

You nailed it. Ultimately, the Muslim world is going to get a handle on it---or they won't. Rather than denying there's a problem within Islam or making excuses for Muslim terrorism the West should be pressuring them to do it.

And supporting them when they make the right steps.

Saudi Arabia doesn't give a tinker's damn about terrorism, they care about the legitimacy of their royal family being challenged. Bahrain will fall inline with SA. The Egyptian military doesn't care for Qatar exporting an ideology that challenges their economic supremacy. None of this has anything to do with terrorism.

Ms Ulrichsen said: "It seems that the Saudis and Emiratis feel emboldened by the alignment of their regional interests - toward Iran and Islamism - with the Trump administration.
"[They] have decided to deal with Qatar's alternative approach on the assumption that they will have the (Trump) administration's backing."
In spite of Trump's proposed policy to ban all Muslims from entering the United States to prevent terrorism, his luxury real estate company, the Trump Organization, has a significant amount of real estate in the Middle East, and Qatar Airways rents space in a Trump tower for its New York headquarters.

Trump Hotel Collection in the Middle East: Ivanka Trump, the business tycoon's daughter and executive vice president of development & acquisitions for the Trump Organization, told the Hotelier Middle East that the company's luxury line of hotels, Trump Hotel Collection, plans to build hotels in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Saudi Arabia in an exclusive interview in May.

"Dubai is a top priority city for us," Ivanka Trump said. "We are looking at multiple opportunities in Abu Dhabi, in Qatar, in Saudi Arabia, so those are the four areas where we are seeing the most interest. We haven't made a final decision in any of the markets but we have many very compelling deals in each of them."
Qatar Airways: The international airline Qatar Airways has had a New York office in the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The airline's logo is a variation of the state flag of Qatar and is based there, where Islamic law, or Sharia, serves as the governing legislation.
Listings for office space in the building start at almost $19,000 and can cost more than $106,000.
Trump was a guest at the airline's 2007 gala to celebrate flights to New York and posed for pictures with the company's CEO Akbar Al Baker.

Yea...I can't wait to see how the White House responds.

Cliff's Notes version: Egypt and Saudi Arabia just told Iran to get fucked.

Bahrain has no bloody choice, their only land access is via a bridge to Saudi Arabia!

That's why I said Bahrain will fall inline with SA. Bahrain is basically Saudi Arabian Las Vegas. They need to be on really good terms with SA.

I didn't see that coming, Qatar would be badly hit by this measure.

I think its support for Iran rather than terrorism. I think we are beginning to see the first moves of the Trump foreign policy in the middle east. The sunnis now have carte blanche to do whatever they like to the shia and any shia sympathizers among the sunni nations are excluded. In exchange the jews are now going to be more closely allied with the Sunnis.

not a good idea for the Gulf states not to be united. I think it's something about the Qatari banks that allow bundling of fund to ISIS , but I can't remember

Do wenot have facilities there?

The largest US base in the Middle East accommodating approx. 10 000 troops is located at the “Al Udeid” Air Base in Qatar, close to the capital Doha.
