I have a feeling that things are about to get diplomatically interesting. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have cut ties with Qatar and in some instances are expelling Qataris. The reason is Qatar's alleged sponsoring of terrorism. Certainly the Wiki entry for Qatar had already been updated this morning.
Although I can never see the Islamic world giving up its eternal quest for a world Caliphate it could be that the four nations would rather take the safer route of conversion by genuine persuasion and an Islamic Renaissance rather than by war. This would leave Islam knocking on doors with Korans, rather than rifles to gain converts. After all, a rich, vibrant, forward looking Islamic country is better than a festering rubble heap of the kind that parts of Syria have been reduced to, or even worse a dusty radioactive crater.
So will there be an effort to modernise or is it just another trick to take the heat off of the region following multiple attacks in multiple countries? I think both, or in the worst analysis it could be just a tactic to give terror groups time to re-group, re-train and re-arm.
