A military coupe might get dear boy leader out, but a military coup de etat isn't in the offing there. Not from within. Even if it did happen, the next strongman would become leader of the cult. It will take decades to deprogram that population, and that will not take unless they are also given a good life while it happens.

why wouldn't a coup de etat be in the works ( with China's blessings?)
Generally military juntas are pretty sharp guys - replacing a regime that is screwed up by a leader
( el-Sisi comes to mind in Eqypt)

If the military is reality based ( and most are) and the regime is a cult of personality -surely the military can see getting rid of the strength ends that bizarreness rule, and provides the best outcome for all for an out of control leadership.

The military in most countries is loyal to itself, and supporting the country -not any 1 regime.
China would have to allow it, but they might be getting there.

Particularly, in the upper echelon. You have to assume NK has at least something resembling an intelligence apparatus that reports to Bowl Cut. It would almost be impossible for people listening in on the outside world to 'not know' that their leader is delusional; moreover, that their leader's delusions may well get them killed.

But no doubt talking about it even privately with someone is a risky proposition. But that where's putting pressure on the regime comes in---it increases the likelihood someone will get desperate enough to pull the trigger.

China can force a behavior mod, or maybe even a regime change, or at least a coupe.
The problem is China wants it both ways; keep the regime as a buffer against western style democracy the region practices
and a militant state to take the pressure off chinese hegemony,as well as no mass exodus over the border.

So what we have to do is force China to act, and i do think Trump gets this -but it still might not be possible

They could very well initiate a coup, claim he died of..."put in your favorite reason"..., and then put in a puppet regime.
