San Francisco bans Happy Meals

The point is not the toy. The point is parents letting their kids run things.

Does anyone actually think removing the toy from a happy meal will actually have an effect on obesity? Really?

The toy is a hook for the kids. But the parents are the ones who drive to McDonalds, order the food, and pay for it.

This is just another example of nannyism and the loss of freedoms.

It's not nannyism and the loss of freedoms, it's your first point...parents letting their kids run things

The definition of a 'meal'
–noun
1) the food served and eaten esp. at one of the customary, regular occasions for taking food during the day, as breakfast, lunch, or supper.

The damn kid shouldn't eat a toy, so it shouldn't be part of a 'meal'

Actually what you are doing is demagoguery (so I've been told).

No shit. They seem to think that it's the role of government to bend over and kiss corporations asses when ever they say so. Well they may think that their life is better off felching some corporation but any rational person wants them appropriately regulated.

saved

mott proves again what a hack he is....now proper regulation of corporations is not allowing them to offer a toy with meals

lmao...

No, the socialist is the one that want me and everyone else to PAY for your kids health problems.

No one is stopping the McDonalds corporation from selling their poison in a box, just remove the HOOK. We don't let kids drive a car for a reason, they do not have the cognitive skills and development of adults. If the poison in a box is such a great deal and a great meal, why does it need a toy inside? McDonalds is a restaurant, not a toy store.

who here has advocated for the government paying for any kids problems? i'll wait...

the toys aren't the hook, its the greasy yummy food, and holy crap, like no adults eat the same food without the toy you dimwit...you no doubt support the government banning candy in the check out aisles at grocery stores, you no doubt support the government banning sugar cereals at a lower shelf level, you no doubt want the government to raise our children, because uncle sam knows best...

you're a fascist nanny state lover....you pray to the alter of government

And why just ban the toy? The toy is not making kids fat. The FOOD is makingthem fat. It is also making adults fat. If you want to use the bullshit logic "fat kids cost us money" routine, then use it to get to the actual problem.

The reason this is done is because supporters can say "We want to help the children". Bullshit. They want to gain control of another facet of our life and stick it to another huge corporation.

You keep quoting some celebrity dog trainer as if anything he says that is not pertaining to the training of dogs still holds a weight greater than that of any poster here. It doesn't.

I don't see why we don't go further and ban the McDonalds mascot. Clearly a clown is trying to attract children. And don't even get me started on the bright happy colors.

Next thing will be a total banning of cigarettes, cigars, snuff, chew, and any other tobacco products; seeing as how those items cause problems.

Remove McDonalds advertising from TV. That worked so well whenwe used it before.

Not just Mickey D's; but this should also be good for that Jack in the Box character.
I wonder who would get the blame if McD and Jack would close all their franchises in California and all those workers would no longer have a job?
Warehouses would have less to store, so they wouldn't need as many workers.
Truck drivers would have less to deliver, so there's no need for so many trucks.
etc
etc

We should also stop the use of happy music in commercials for food companies. There is a direct, indisputable link between eating and obesity. Clearly the music causes us to subconsciously believe that eating will make us happy.

you're a fascist

A fascist, over a TOY! WOW!!! You have a mental disorder...seriously.

San Francisco has universal health care and children have access to subsidized care. SO, the health care costs of childhood obesity is not just a burden on the parents. It is a burden on the whole community. There is NOTHING stopping parents from buying the kid a Happy Meal. The only thing missing from the 'meal' is not food, the damn kid shouldn't eat plastic anyways. So it is not part of a meal.

I hope someone else in your family is teaching the kids to read and write.

A socialist would be someone who wants to pass their costs onto others. Childhood obesity and obesity in general does that. It cost EVERYONE more money in insurance premiums. It costs employers in lost work days. Children treated for obesity are roughly three times more expensive for the health care system than children of normal weight.

So you really don't have a problem with socialism.
