A lawyer for the family of the two who murdered 14 people in California cast doubt on authorities’ version of the attack — and bizarrely backed the “truthers” who believe the Sandy Hook school massacre was a hoax.
“There were a lot of questions drawn with Sandy Hook and whether or not that was a real incident or not,” top Los Angeles defense attorney David Chesley said Thursday night outside the home of gunman Syed Farook’s relatives.
“There’s a lot of people that said it happened but hasn’t happened in the way that it was purported to have taken place,” he said.
Chesley also said he doubted that Farook, 28, and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, 27, carried out the attack the way the police and FBI have it.
“There have been suggestions that it may be something that was related to their work, that somehow he was a disgruntled employee,” he said. “But it doesn’t seem plausible to us that this petite woman would be involved in this sort of hyper-caricatured, Bonnie-and-Clyde crazy scenario,” he said, while offering no evidence or alternative theories.
Later, he told CNN, “It’s just ridiculous. It doesn’t add up.”
Asked about the stash of pipe bombs and ammo found in the couple’s home, he suggested the evidence could have been planted.
“I mean obviously these things were found there, how they got there we don’t know,” he said.
He then made the same crackpot claim about the December 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, where deranged gunman Adam Lanza massacred 20 schoolchildren and six adult staffers.
“There’s no question that incidents have taken place and evidence was found, but we just question some of that,” he said.
