I was having this discussion last night IRL. We grew up with the real fear of nuclear war. Numerous Twilight Zone episodes were based on the concept.

Then the USSR disbanded and for decades we laughed about how silly it was when we were young. I remember believing that we would see the end of the world.

I'm still holding out hope.
