Russian mercenary chief appears to threaten rebellion, questions invasion

There are signs that the Kremlin is losing control of the narrative.

One of Russia’s most aggressive propagandists - Margarita Simonyan, boss of RT - suggested that the war could no longer be won. “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to stop this bloodshed right now?” she said on state-run television.

Konstantin Zatulin, a senior lawmaker with the ruling United Russia party, told a televised forum that the invasion had achieved none of Putin’s declared aims. “Let’s get out of this somehow,” he said.

Igor Girkin (aka Strelkov, ex-FSB officer, one-time defense minister of the Donetsk ‘People’s Republic’ and nemesis of airliners) said Putin “is not going to win this war ... Kherson is abandoned, Izium is abandoned, Kupiansk is abandoned."

These people should heed our Putin-loving experts on JPP, who know far more about these matters than they do. Russia is winning! All Putin has to do is wait. And wait.

'This is treason!' Vladimir Putin blasts Wagner chief Prigozhin for a 'stab in the back' and says 'measures will be very hard' as warlord's feared militia sweep into Russian city Rostov-on-Don and Moscow goes onto red alert for a military coup

they are mercenaries.....at worst it is breach of contract.......

that depends......he has 25,000 soldiers loyal to him......how many are loyal to Putin......

I suspect that this will be over by Monday, but the guys at the Duran were saying that Wagner will now be disbanded. Scott Ritter goes into some depth about how this force had become problematic even before this mutiny:

The head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group appears to be threatening an armed rebellion against Russia's military leadership, after accusing it of deliberately shelling his forces on Friday.

Wagner's founder Yevgeny Prigozhin in an audio message on Friday claimed his forces would now punish Russia's defense minister and chief of general staff, telling other units to stand down and not offer resistance.

Wagner chief says Russian invasion based on lies
The head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said the Kremlin's justifications for its invasion of Ukraine are based on lies, in another extraordinary attack on the country's military and political leadership.

Prigozhin, a key ally of Putin, in a video posted Friday, contradicted the public explanations for the war, including the central claim made by Putin that the 2022 invasion was necessary to prevent an attack from Ukraine.

do the folks at the Duran run the Wagner group?........I've never heard of them......

So Wagner has rolled through the city of Rostov-on-Don and the city of Voronezh on the path toward Moscow, with limited resistance. They've taken the various government buildings in the cities, as well as their military facilities.

These aren't small towns. The former is the 10th most populated city in Russia, and the latter is the 14th. This would be like Blackwater (now known as Academi after rebranding after their, erm, war crimes in Iraq). rolling in with full military equipment including tanks, through Austin Texas and Columbus Ohio and taking over all federal and local government buildings there in those cities as well as Camp Mabry and Wright-Patterson whilst doing so, and only fighting off a helicopter or two.

I don’t see how this war is a “life and death” struggle for Russia.
They will still exist after they lose.
It’s a life and death struggle for not only Ukraine as a country but for its people - literally.
Now that Russia sees they cannot win their military objective is clearly the genocide of the people of Ukraine.

It could see a return of Democracy to Russia. This is a fight between gangsters. After the fight is over, the Russian people will have a chance to stand up for themselves and demand change.

FWIW, my money is on the Russians, not the mercenaries. It's one thing to be drafted to fight in a foreign land. It's another to see your own homes threatened by corruption and mercenaries.

I hope you are correct about Democracy returning.

Overall, I think this spells the end for Putin. If he survives, he'll probably go into "retirement".
