Russian hackers penetrate U.S. electricity grid...

Alright Milagro and Guille you network geniuses. All I want to know is why when I am at sea on satellite I have zero problems with connections but when I come ashore my phone gives me some round swirling thingy and drops calls.

Do you have a flip phone?

What I want to know is how do you have access to satellite when you're at sea? Are you a big muckety-muck? That shit is expensive and my understanding, admittedly limited, is that access isn't granted to everyone.

Not sure what you mean by big muckety muck. Satellite is expensive. So is fuel, insurance, wages, etc. These are not small vessels.

Intranet is not something I just made up, it is a general term for an internal network. It is clear that you only have a hazy and sketchy understanding of IP addressing schemes.

Of course the whole concept of subnetting IPv4 addresses to subdivide addressing classes more efficiently becomes virtually unnecessary in IPv6, where you can assign a /64 subnet mask on a point to point link without feeling the least bit guilty.

I know what Intranet means. You're missing my point. I'm saying specific subnets are targeted and you don't seem to understand what I mean by that. Put simply, in deference to you, the spies want to avoid the routers. And, in this case, if they're collecting data and don't have malicious intent the machine isn't the issue...the person who was supposed to take the collected data out of the facility is the issue. Comprende?

How are they still in business ?

If one ponders this crazy upside down fake news horse shit the TARD infested state run media is embarrassing themselves with, (as they create the fake news), I think the ol' Fox Dumpster is sharp enough ta do some head fakes once he has all the levers of control n' really embarrass the then, (post 1/20/2017), anti-state hard Left media.

This could be a crazy four years.

I want the Dumpster to succeed, can't think of why so many TARD infected Lefties want failure.

I wanted Obamaprompter to succeed in 2009, hopin' his moderate positions taken in his campaign were not lies. I was disappointed to say the very least, n' I knew better by 2013.

Not since a boy.

Cool. I kind of envy you, I had a chance when I was younger to train to be an engineer and go to sea. I obviously didn't do it but every once in awhile I wonder what life would have been like had I done so. When I was in the military I liked travelling...usually...

If your question was serious I'll answer it for you.

My question is very serious. I think it might have something to do with pairing but I am not that familiar with it. I just need it to work. If you ever want a chance to go on a voyage, you are always welcome.

No not really as you are mostly spouting bollocks. You have absolutely no idea what they were targeting. They may have had an inkling what the internal IP addressing scheme is and whether they are implementing NAT/PAT address translation assuming they are using IPv4 addressing.

Many modern networks obviate the need to use Layer 3 addressing to switch packets altogether by implementing a protocol like MPLS at the core layer which uses multi protocol label switching to switch traffic more efficiently rather than IP addresses to the various VLANs. This protocol is often referred to as layer 2.5 in the ISO seven layer network model. Oh and don't even get me started on Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF).

Basically the reason you don't have problems with the satellite is because access is restricted. If everyone within line of sight of the satellite could use it at any time you would have serious problems. When you come ashore though you have to go through cell towers which are not access limited the way the satellite is at sea. Only so much data can be pushed through at any given moment and distance from the tower can also be an issue so if you're too far away or too many people are trying to access the tower your signal will drop. Same thing happens with Wi-Fi.

They weren't the only ones.

Nearly the entire TARD infested state run media jumped on this one, as it proved their 'Vlad stole the election fer the Dumpster n' robbed our deserving Queen and now he wants our 'lectricity' narrative by proxy.

It is frickin' hilarious.

Yer question is spot on: why are ANY those fools still in bidness? burp...

This entire thing reminds of Jarod and a "friend" of his.

Seems like his "friend" got caught with kiddie porn, on his work computer, and he blamed it on an e-mail that had been sent to him at his home computer.

That makes sense. Kind of the reason they use "repeaters" ( I am unsure if that is the correct term) in shore terminals like container ports. We upgraded recently with Iridium on two of our vessels. They are coming out in the next week to take a look into this. Thanks to you maybe I can sound a little bit like I know something!

Washington Post retracts story about Russian hack at Vermont utility

The Washington Post has retracted its story about Russian hackers penetrating the nation’s electricity grid with a virus found in a Burlington, Vt., electric company laptop.

“Authorities say there is no indication of that so far [that Russians had penetrated the US electric grid],” according to an editor’s note attached to a corrected version of the story on the paper’s Web site

“The computer at Burlington Electric that was hacked was not attached to the grid,” the editor’s note read.

News of the supposed hack had set off a firestorm of recriminations, with Vermont leaders calling Russian President Vladimir Putin “a thug” earlier Saturday, after one of the state’s electric utilities found a virus on a laptop computer.

A utility spokesman has also told the Burlington Free Press the laptop was not hooked into the grid.

No problem. I did just edit that post. What exactly did you mean by pairing? Do you have two phones or does your employer require you to pair your phone with one of their devices at sea? That second option actually could interfere with your phone when you're ashore.

I just saw this. One of the items we upgraded to allows cell phones to connect through our satellite systems, instead of carrying a satellite phone. This is the system I am having problems with.
