Russian Gas Exports Outside Ex-Soviet States Fell 45.5% in 2022

Russian gas exports to countries outside a group of former Soviet republics plunged by 45.5% in 2022, figures from gas giant Gazprom showed Monday.

Gazprom said in a statement that exports outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) totaled 100.9 billion cubic meters compared to 185.1 billion in 2021.

Europe was previously Gazprom's main export market but supplies have been drastically reduced because of sanctions following Russia's offensive in Ukraine in 2022.

Gazprom head Alexei Miller said the company had been steadily increasing supplies to China during the year but did not give details on the quantities.

"From Jan. 1 we are on a fundamentally new level of gas supplies to China," Miller said in the statement.

President Vladimir Putin last month inaugurated the Kovykta natural gas field in eastern Siberia that will allow Russia to increase its exports to China.

Russia does not have pipelines to transport gas from its Western Siberian and Arctic gas fields to China.

But Russia began efforts around a decade ago to develop new fields and build the Power of Siberia pipeline to deliver to the rapidly expanding Chinese market.

I don't ever see things getting back to normal with the West after the unprovoked attack on Ukraine by Russia?!! When this war ends, there will be a matter of war crimes and war reparations too?!! If Putin is ousted and not killed, they should turn him over to the Hague for crimes against humanity?!!

If oil and gas is an important source of income for Russia this is certainly not good news for Russia's economy.

I remember a Russian political scientist write on FB the day of the invasion that Putin had doomed Russia to decades of stagnation and economic isolation from western capital investment

They are selling half the gas at half the price, so about a quarter of the money they would be earning... Not winning folks.

If Putin had quit after his second term when Russia still had the trappings of democratic institutions, his legacy would have been assured as one one the greatest Russian leaders in history.

Now he's going to be remembered as the guy who doomed Russia to decades of economic and technological stagnation, all for a strip of land along the shores of the Sea of Azov

Hopefully, Putin will also be remembered for the atrocities that he committed against the civilian population of Ukraine, since the time of Adolf Hitler.

Looks like he's going on a Mediterranean cruise with them too. Should Greece and Italy be ascared?
Maybe he plans on fixing Libya. Now that would be a step in a positive direction.

There's not a single economist or Finance Minister on the planet who ever blurted out the thought:

"I have a great idea! Let's shut ourselves out of the European and North American markets!"

hypersonics? ya they are "scary".. the term is "ships" not boats

All weapons are scary. But this ship w/ its missiles are not a game changer nor will they be used against a NATO country unless Putin declares war on NATO, which would be insane.
It won't even be allowed in the Black Sea.
Nothing more than a show.
