Russian President Vladimir Putin says his forces are bringing in fighters from the Middle East to join the widely denounced invasion of Ukraine.

"If you see that there are these people who want of their own accord, not for money, to come to help the people living in Donbas [a separatist region in Eastern Ukraine], then we need to give them what they want and help them get to the conflict zone," Putin said on Friday, according to Reuters.

The move not only allows the country to expand its manpower in what is shifting into a grinding battle for control of Ukrainian territory, it gives Russian officials evidence of a counter-narrative to those non-Ukrainians that are flocking to fight against them.

Russian officials say the additional fighters are willing volunteers, persuaded by their argument for the invasion.

During a meeting for Russia's Security Council, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that people from the Middle East account for roughly 16,000 applicants, Reuters reported.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that the fighters include people from Syrian

The Wagner Group, a private Russian-based contractor, has attempted to recruit fighters near Iraq's border, allegedly offering up to $300 to those who would work as security guards in Ukraine for six months, European activist Omar Abu Layla claimed, according to the AP.

An advertisement for a "combat role" in Ukraine was also purportedly shared on a private Facebook group for soldiers in the Syrian army, offering $3,000 based on experience.

Nothing surprising when Putin is following the in Hamas technique of bombing Israel bombing Ukraine; but then again this is rootin' tootin' Putin's invasion....

Every country has bloodthirsty, low-IQ murderers looking for work. Maybe we should send some of *ours* to fight on the side of the Ukrainians?

So the war widens to other nations. Well, I think a lot of people already knew that was going to happen...

No, this is about states using mercenaries rather than or to augment regular troops, which has become very common. Almost the same is using contractors, as America has long done.

The real reason Putin attacked Ukraine:

The truth was getting too close to his propaganda.

Ukraine was becoming a modern free country with freedom of speech, and it was undermining Putin's propaganda because there is so much contact between Ukrainians and Russians.

Everybody knows his argument about NATO is BS. NATO is purely defensive, has never expressed any aggressive tendencies. Russia has nothing to fear from NATO as long as Russia keeps their troops and weapons in their own country.

There are already Americans fighting to defend Ukraine. They went of their own accord.

I heard that some talked about going there but haven't heard yet that any actually showed up.

Idea for solving urban gun violence: Pack up all the gangsters and their bang-bangs, give 'em all some military gear and a one-way ticket to Ukraine. If they fight well, they get a ticket home. lol

That whole "denazification" thing is such bullshit. But no doubt the average Russian citizen has no idea that not only is Zelenskyy Jewish, he lost several family members in the Holocaust. I didn't know that either, till this all started.

It also helps dispel the Western propaganda narrative that Russia is ' isolated ' and ' a pariah state ' .

You'd have allowed Kruschev to keep his nuclear missiles in Cuba then ?

We're heading for the second week of open season on JPP hypocrisy. There are rumblings in the censorship department.
