We have to bear in mind that Ukraine is not an existential threat to the US- but it sure as hell is to the Russians. NATO knew that but continued to press.

Now NATO could save the city of Lyiv by telling Zelensky that he should quit the struggle now and live to fight the political struggle another day. Failure to do so would be another confirmation of NATO's inherent aggression.

That makes no sense. Ukraine has the right to have a defense structure including planes. Ukraine did not attack Russia. I guess that makes Russia's military fair game. Russia's horrible attack justifies Ukraine's plane construction.
