Running on Repeal

It may not be as successful as anticipated:

WASHINGTON — Americans by 9 percentage points have a favorable view of the health care overhaul that President Obama signed into law Tuesday, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, a notable turnaround from surveys before the vote that showed a plurality against it.

By 49%-40% those surveyed say it was "a good thing" rather than a bad one that Congress passed the bill. Half describe their reaction in positive terms, as "enthusiastic" or "pleased," while about four in 10 describe it in negative ways, as "disappointed" or "angry."

The largest single group, 48%, calls the bill "a good first step" that should be followed by more action on health care. An additional 4% also have a favorable view, saying the bill makes the most important changes needed in the nation's health care system.

[snip]

The findings are encouraging for the White House and congressional Democrats, who get higher ratings than congressional Republicans for their work on the issue. The poll shows receptive terrain as the White House and advocacy groups launch efforts to sell the plan, including a trip by Obama to Iowa on Thursday.

No one gets overwhelmingly positive ratings on the issue, but Obama fares the best: 46% say his work has been excellent or good; 31% call it poor. Congressional Democrats get an even split: 32% call their efforts good or excellent; 33% poor.

The standing of congressional Republicans is more negative. While 26% rate their work on health care as good or excellent, a larger group, 34%, say it has been poor.

And the numbers are only likely to increase from here. There simply isn't anything bad that can be said about the reforms that hasn't been said already and once people learn about the immediate benefits, I think the bill will only gain popularity.

A temporary bump was expected. Nothing new here.

Oh, I see. The polls that you and your were trotting out as evidence that everyone in America hated the bill and that members of Congress were going "against the will of the people" were cause for shouts of tyranny, socialism and oppression whereas polls showing support for the bill are "nothing new." That's quite convenient.

I'll have to find them again, but I saw a poll that had Nancy Pelosi's approval rating at 11%. Harry Reid's is at 9%. And the people who believe Elvis is still alive is at around 8%.

Did you compare them to McConnell and Boehner? Do that and get back to me.

And what will that show?

Well, people trot out these numbers on Reid and Pelosi as if they are indicative of some larger trend. The fact of the matter is that Congress in general has low approval ratings, Democrats in Congress have higher approval ratings than Republicans in Congress, Pelosi has a higher approval rating that Boehner and Reid and McConnell have roughly equivalent approval ratings.

Here's the thing... Pinhead Liberals weakness is, the inability to comprehend unintended consequences. This bill is a classic example. In order to get it passed, the Democrats have pulled out all the stops and promised us all the moon and stars, and frankly, they will not be able to deliver. Think about the fairy-tale scenario they have presented, where we insure the uninsured, as well as the uninsurable, take a half trillion from Medicare and claim we are extending the life of Medicare, and this will not cost us more money, but it will actually reduce the deficit. We are going to create hundreds, if not thousands, of new government agencies, and it's not going to cost us a dime... budget neutral! That is what they have told us, and it's a bald faced lie, and every honest person in America knows it's a lie. The truth is, this bill is massive in cost and future liability, unfunded mandates as baby boomers retire... this thing will NOT fly, we don't have enough rich bastards to tax... hell, we don't have enough rich bastards to assault and roll, and take everything they own, to pay for what this will end up costing us. But because Nancy and The Boys used Bernie Madolff's playbook with the CBO and the numbers, the Democrats can strut around claiming a bunch of absolute horseshit is the truth.... and empty-headed nitwits like you will believe it!

So we have this massive behemoth of a budget buster, and unprecedented governmental control over our personal lives, into our personal affairs, and effecting our everyday life.... and you don't think people are going to be upset about that? Well, maybe people who want to keep their deadbeat 26-year-old living at home and on their insurance, maybe they will love this bill... but those of us who's children and grandchildren are going to grow up and have to pay for this shit, are not amused.

Another unintended consequence, is the jobs this is going to cost. There is no clear study on just how huge the impact will be, but you can bet it will be significant... Democrats haven't thought one moment about this, they don't care! Yeah, we will gain a few thousand government jobs to regulate everything, but small business, who hires most of the people in America, are going to be faced with insurmountable roadblocks to hiring new employees, because of the mandates and regulations for insurance coverage. Suddenly, hiring those few extra people for the Summer rush, is not such a good idea, because you are going to be obligated to provide insurance, and your insurance company is going to require you have potential employees examined medically before they hire them, and it will be a great big mess that no small businessman wants to deal with, so he will simply make do with what he has.

Then there is the unintended consequence of Doctor shortages. We know that back a few months ago, they did a survey and found 47% of practicing physicians said they would consider leaving the practice, if the Health Care bill became the law... well, it is law... what do you think might happen? We certainly aren't likely to GAIN doctors, and we are injecting, what? 20-30 million more patients into the system, you do the math... oh, that's right, you people are too fucking stupid to do the math...

And that reminds me.... Stupack is, as Stupack does! ...yet another bone of contention out there, which is going to cause Democrats some major problems with the electorate.

Yeah, bud... you better hope that by November, everyone is fully employed, no one is sick, and we all have petunia's blossoming out our ass... 'cause, short of that, you are going to lose big time in the mid-terms.

When people see what's in it and the teabag lies fade approval will jump big time. Run on appeal will be ditched like tigers girlfriends.

Here's the thing... Pinhead Liberals weakness is, the inability to comprehend unintended consequences. ........... this thing will NOT fly, we don't have enough rich bastards to tax...

Riiiight. All those countries that now have universal medical have so many more rich bastards. That's how they pay for it.

So we have this massive behemoth of a budget buster, and unprecedented governmental control over our personal lives, into our personal affairs, and effecting our everyday life.... and you don't think people are going to be upset about that?

The nerve of government to want to get people insured! The unmitigated gall to want to help. REVOLUTION, I say. REVOLUTION!

Absolutely! We'll all have to wait for our milkshakes and banana splits at the dairy bar. We'll be standing in line reminiscing about the good old days when we used to get a soft ice cream in less than 60 seconds. That will be a riot-starter!

Then there is the unintended consequence of Doctor shortages. We know that back a few months ago, they did a survey and found 47% of practicing physicians said they would consider leaving the practice, if the Health Care bill became the law... well, it is law... what do you think might happen?

They will all become veterinarians and people will bring their pets from all over the world. A veritable customs nightmare with French Poodles from France. Siamese cats from Siam (now Thailand). English Bull Dogs from ......?

And that reminds me.... Stupack is, as Stupack does! ...yet another bone of contention out there, which is going to cause Democrats some major problems with the electorate.

The only "bone of contention" is the bone between the ears of Republicans.

Yeah, bud... you better hope that by November, everyone is fully employed, no one is sick, and we all have petunia's blossoming out our ass... 'cause, short of that, you are going to lose big time in the mid-terms.

And Obama will never become President and the Health Reform Bill will never pass and ......Give it up, Dixie. You ain't no Nostradamus.

and its quite convenient for you to now use a poll to attempt to justify american's POV regarding h/c

before it was nothing but whining about the poll and the questions, now....the poll is good!

As soon as all the proles in their 20s discover that its going to be a criminal offense for them to not buy health insurance, they are going to be slightly put-off...

Well who gives a fuck? They don't vote. Besides, these irresponsible and immature "I'm going to live forever" punks who are a big part of the problem in the first place. Fuck them! Their a bunch of stupid mouth breathers who need to grow up, get a job and pay a mortgage!

There....I feel better now that I have that off my chest. Thank you. :)

My criticisms of the pre-vote polls were two-fold: first, when asked about specific aspects of the bills being considered people liked them and second, the polls failed adequately to account for the opposition to the bill from the left.

This particular poll (while subject to some of the same criticism in that it fails adequately to account for opposition from the left) is comparable to the generic pre-vote polls regarding whether people approve of the bill and, relative to those polls, shows the beginning of a trend in favor of the bill.

bs the teabaggers lied thier asses off about what's in it. When the public finds out more of the details the popularity will continue to rise. I saw a gallop of 49 for 40 against just yestarday. That will rise, republicans spooned with the teabaggers too long. Watch and see.

No one should trust the resident site Democrat party man on strategy for the Republicans.
If government healthcare reform can be repealed in Liberal Hawaii and Oregon, it sure as hell has the support for the nation.

I'm not offering strategy advice, I'm discussing the prospects of the repeal strategy being effective. From my perspective, it doesn't look good and I hope the Republicans decide to pursue the "Repeal It!" strategy.
