John Deere Des Moines Works will be laying off 119 employees in Ankeny in three phases beginning in late March.
John Deere confirmed to KWWL that the three groups of layoffs will be in effect on March 28, April 4, and April 28.
The company says that the layoffs are not due to a move in production, but are due to reduced demand for products at Des Moines Works.
The company said in a statement, "It is important to note these layoffs are due to reduced demand for the products produced at Des Moines Works. They are not related to production moves. As we have repeatedly stated, these layoffs are due to the weakened farm economy and a reduction in customer orders for our equipment."
In the first quarter of FY25, John Deere's sales were down 37% compared to the first quarter last year.
