Putin owes his power to propaganda and effective messaging, including that image. It's subliminal.
The main reason Putin invaded Ukraine is because the truth was getting too close to his propaganda. He wanted to be able to have complete control over the messaging in Ukraine. Look what he's done to Russia:
a) Made himself ruler for life.
b) Took complete control of public messaging.
