They know he obviously murdered his wife who just had her last chemo round

She asked for a divorce

He hit her in the head with something and dumped her body in a stream

Are there no morals left in the entire Republican Party?

After nearly three decades behind bars, Joel Caston is seeking redemption through politics.

The 44-year-old felon, convicted of murder as a teenager, became the newest elected public servant in Washington, D.C., this summer, winning a groundbreaking election for neighborhood commissioner on the city's southeast side.

Not the same asshole

This guy is in fucking jail about to be tried for the recent death of his cancer ridden wife

Even the family of the victim in Caston's crime has given their full endorsement, telling ABC News in a statement: "We believe in forgiveness!!!!!! … and we hope Joel will do good work in the community!!!"

Behind bars, Caston has taught himself Arabic and Mandarin, studies the bible in French and Spanish, created a mentoring program for young inmates and has published a curriculum of books that teaches the basics of investments and savings.

"We want people on the inside thinking like citizens," he said. "If we can get them thinking this way while they're in the inside, the overarching goal is that that would be the mind set on the outside. So we change the narrative."

He paid his debt to society. Isn't he worthy of getting a second chance?

The first thing you need to know:
Since nobody on the D side even tried to get elected they had 3 names on a primary ballot for 3 spots to fill...

You follow the politics in this small town better than the folks that voted it seems, Desh. Of 276 votes possible he got 60...

I don't know how many of you know what it is like in a large area with not many folks living in it. In our county, most folks contact me to find out who is in which party, etc. before they vote, some do not know me... some vote without knowing anything at all about the folks because there are no ads, no real newspapers, no radio time for the folks running because we simply don't have the population for the radio folks to care... You see signs, just signs by the side of the road.

That this guy only got 60 votes out of 276 in a primary tells me that other folks were more popular, probably because they hadn't been arrested... I think it is likely these folks either didn't know he was arrested yet when they voted, or may still not know... Since nobody on the D side even tried to get elected they had 3 names on a ballot for 3 spots to fill... it is likely these folks know who will be appointed in his place if he is convicted.

They put a murder suspect in office Damo

I read the article

Found it telling

And posted and commented on it

You used to be a libertarian who held the Republican Party in contempt

Now you are their greatest defender

This sort of anomaly happens from time to time. So? It isn't a Republican or Democrat thing, it's a person who took advantage of the system thing.

This is simply another case of Desh being demented old Desh. In her search bar she googles something like...." Republicans elect murderer" and she just runs with it..... Its ridiculous. Hey Desh,.....how come you never Mention Kwame Killpatrick? ;)

This is current news you evil dumb fuck

How come you are not cheering these idiot republicans choice?

It really is a case of three people on a ballot for three spots and a ballot that says "vote for three"... that he only got 60 out of 276 just means that 60 folks didn't know that under votes (if you vote for two and not a third, that would be an under voted ballot) still count and they could have just not voted for him.

Desh is just spouting nonsense.

It's also true that if this guy is convicted he will be replaced by someone appointed by the party.. It is likely that this is a heavily R area (small town and all) and these folks know who will be appointed.

If we follow Desh's logic, the Democrats didn't vote against him!

This Primary had no D ballot because no Democrats even chose to run against a man who is going to stand trial for murder...

The Democrats simply decided that it wasn't important to vote for someone else, if we follow Desh's logic.
