Romney apologizes

yeah, they do. In high school the wrestling team would grab a freshman basketball player at random and wrap him up like a mummy with athletic tape and give him a reverse mohawk. It happened every year and was considered a boys will be boys thing.

were you one of the bullies

Anyone reading my posts on this thread knows this is not my claim. My claim is that people who aren't sociopaths who bullied others, especially in cases where they physically assaulted a screaming kid as happened here, feel and express tremendous remorse over it throughout their lives. Often, they seek out their victims to make amends. To gain forgiveness. They do this because they are tortured by these memories. That is change.

What Mitt did? Not change.

yes it is your claim. You want to label Romney a sociopath because you are against his politics and you think using a hair cutting incident will justify your insanity.

Tell us, was that witness the one that worked on Obama's campaign in 2008?

Just because someone calls it vicious doesn't mean it was.

Also, it was 50 years ago... you expect him to remember everything he did from back then?

Also, too, I love how the independent free thinking totally not Republican folks are falling into line behind Rmoney now that he's the nominee.

SF, I'm not sure if you're keeping up w/ the times on this one. Bullying is serious shit; kids lose their lives over it pretty regularly, and there are programs to raise awareness on it everywhere because it can be so damaging. It's not a "boys will be boys" thing anymore.

were you one of the bullies

No, but I was one that stood by and let it happen. Honestly I hadn't thought about it until today. It was not that big a deal. The freshman in my class that got snagged at random was my best friend in high school. While he was annoyed that he was the one snagged, he laughed it off after. Not saying this is the same as the situation with Romney, but cutting someones hair in high school and labeling them a psycho for it 50 years later is absurd.

Well now we're getting into very sensitive issues of who was the bullied and who were the bullies. And you know, that's not a road I'm going to go down with you here.

I've made my points. I do have compassion for those who behaved in this manner, as long as they have expressed serious remorse. I have said this over and over.

And one more time, there's a pattern here. I believe it's a pattern. I believe Romney is missing something. And that's why he constantly stumbles on this stuff. We'll see how it all plays out. Nothing I say here is going to change how this all plays out as the election goes on. Let's just call it the missing sensitivity chip. We'll see.

I understand that times have changed Onceler. Thanks for acknowledging at last that times have indeed changed since the 1980's, even more so since the 1960's.

FAUX outrage at its finest.

Mitt Romney apologized Thursday for what he described as "hijinks and pranks during high school," in response to a newspaper story that claimed he and other students pinned down a classmate and cut off his hair back in 1965.

The individual involved was gay, according to the Washington Post story, and was sporting bleached blond hair at the time.

Romney, though, told Fox News Radio Thursday he doesn't recall that specific incident, and certainly did not know the student was gay.

"I don't remember that incident," he said. "And I'll tell you I certainly don't believe that I ... thought the fellow was homosexual. That was the furthest thing from our minds back in the 1960s, so that was not the case."

But he acknowledged playing pranks and teasing other students, and apologized for those that went "too far" -- while noting he is "a very different person" now.

"Back in high school, you know, I did some dumb things and if anybody was hurt by that or offended, obviously I apologize," Romney said.

good enough?

One of the worst appology's Ive ever seen.

Falling into line? LMAO... so, we should let you morons run around screaming about a hair cutting incident from 50 years ago and not mock you for it?

I am addressing what he said Dung. I am not saying everything he says should be ignored. I am not refusing to discuss what it is he said. But I am bringing up another point from the article Dung. Did you even bother to read it? Or did you just get your talking points from your masters again and that was good enough for you as always?

not anymore than obama partaking of cocaine....

Doing drugs is one thing, bullying a weaker boy is quite another, this was the worst type of bullying.

Had Romney called the kid and appologised 10 years ago and not only after he was exposed to the press while running for president, that would have been a real appology.

they are not allowed in the cabin...they are always in the cargo hold.

WRONG, Ive been on several commercial flights where dogs were in the cabin, my mother travels with her dog in the cabin all the time, its a $50 charge.

Did you think it was equally outrageous to make hay out of "I didn't inhale", or protesting at Oxford? Or Obama's using cocaine? Or Bush getting a DUI?

It's called running for President. Your whole life is scrutinized.

inquiring minds want to know....when Don Quixoty was a sophomore in high school did he ever insult anyone?.....will all his classmates please step forward to tell us about it?.....

Are you equating an insult with holding a boy down and cutting his hair?

I would expect someone who did that to remember it. I remember much less signifigant stuff from 35 years ago.

Even in the article the witnesses stated Romney changed when he met Ann.

If he had called the boy and apologised then, Id never give the incident another thought, yet he is still claiming he does not remember it!

Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes

It is fucking retarded. It is why we fail to attract quality people to public office. Instead we keep getting one douche bag after another.

None of us are perfect. Most people don't want our every mistake tossed out for all to see. It is one thing to look back and say, well he got a DUI 20 years ago, another 10 years ago and a third 3 years ago. it shows a repeated behavior that should be taken into account.

But tell me... do you find it just a bit odd that this story broke now? That the sudden recall of memory from 50 years ago would pop up when Obama needed it? right after Obama's 'I am for gay marriage (for now)'

To call what Romney is alledged to have done a "prank" illistrates his lack of remorse or having changed. To pretend he does not remember it illistrates a lack of remorse and change. To have not called the kid before illistrates a lack of change. To issue a non-apology for "pranks" illistrates a lack of change or remorse.

It's not retarded. If someone is running for President and they're a Governor of a state now, and in that role, support draconian drug laws that are putting youths in prison for decades for possession charges, and that person did drugs as a youth, I have a big problem with that. And I want to know about it.

That's my definition of character. Some people want to know every place you put your penis. To me that's a very distorted view of someone's character. But treating others as you were fortunate enough to be treated, or treating others as you would wish to be treated, that's character.

In fact, I believe it's the Golden Rule or some such thing?
