i know you think im partially trolling or using hyperbole, but it actually blows my mind how people don't think he deserved that beat down. He had attacked cops and gotten back up multiple times. Wouldn't stay the fuck still so they could arrest him. Totally blows my mind people hold up rodney king as some kind of martyr. He's an idiot. And yes he deserved everything he got.

To be clear on my position from the start, the cops went way way way too far.

That said, the whole charge of them being racist was bullshit in my opinion. King led them on a high speed chase while drunk and on drugs. He then charged the cops when he was pulled over. The fact that the other black men in the car were simply cuffed and put in the police car would indicate they didn't act out of racism, but rather rage. They had no justification for letting their emotions take them to the point of nearly beating a man to death.

I will agree with Oncelor that King's initial 'can't we just get along' comment was amazing given what they had done to him. The man was a fuck up, but he knew it and I believe did try to do better, he just wasn't successful.

Not being there, I can't say if they went to far or not; but from stories I've read about the strength and pain tolerance of those on PC, I tend to lean towards the idea that if he had complied we wouldn't be talking about this.
