seems in addition to raising global temperatures (depending on whose study you believe) the added co2 in the atmosphere is increasing the acidity of our oceans

we know that this is killing off coral, but will it kill off ocean micro-organisms (and other ocean dwellers)

I have to direct you to some new research. It's interesting to see how the environment is equipped to deal with the carbon balance. It's almost like it's been doing this stuff forever.

Here's a link the the study, or the abstract. It's not free if you want the fresh science. LOL I'd bet I could find a free copy at heartland.org, but I'm sure such a link would violate sourcewatch standards.

tried em. nothing. You'll have to be satisfied with the abstract. LOL sorry.

bummer, i watched a NG special tonight about this subject and they say that the acidity level is rising (slowly to us, but fast for any advanced beyond 1, 2 or 3 cell creatures
I believe that the government is there to do what people cannot do individually or with small groups, the level should depend upon the complexity of the issue. Thus intracity, intracounty, intrastate, differ substantially from issues on the interstate or national level. In all cases, the least government interference/action the better.

I have a question, don? Would you agree that warm weather events are used by the media to support the notion of global warming, in general, regardless of the cause?

I'm not gonna make any claims, but the evidence for cosmic ray flux and solar activity is right here.

We have been waiting for a late solar cycle 24 for over 2 years.

Do you have the studies cited? I cited a brand new study. I doubt the NG product is that fresh. They recycle so bad, you've probably seen the same special a dozen times over the last 4 years

any reason that it cannot be both...the planet is getting warmer

while the co2 may or may not be responsible or contributing, it is contributing to the rising acidity of the oceans - not a lot but enough to be a problem for coral

as for the media, they can perform a biologically improbable act, they are all about ratings and good news does not sell

maybe we will discover that it is not any simple solution but a combination of events or processes either beyond our control or needing urgent action

between the increases in co2 and ch4 we are in trouble at least in the oceans and likely global climate change

is there a prolonged el nino in our future

will the northern escalator break

can we in fact do anything about the global climate changes

ps the local fire is almost totally contained and moved west of me - see santa barbara/goleta fire

sorry, but nothing new, but the ng program planet biography has not appeared before but i suspect that some of it is from previous programs

ps the coral problem is not just heat, but the acidity, a major component of coral is calcium carbonate CaC03 which is dissolved by H2CO3 = CO2 + H2O

It doesn't not matter if all the fish in the ocean die we will just drill for more.

We drill deep enough and just drain the ocean inside the hollow earth to refill ours.

why do you bother posting in global warming threads? You have nothing to add.

I found another interesting article. It seems that acicity in coral is greater than the overall acidity of the entire ocean. It's as of yet unexplained, but they think the coral may be the source of additional acidity.

no matter what it looks like we are well and truly screwed - or at least my kids and grandkids are

the CaCO3 Vs Ca2CO4 is an interesting question for which i have no answer

but an almost .3 increase in the ph of the oceans is incredible and makes ocean micro organisms even more threatened and if they go we are well and truly screwed because they account for the vast bulk of oxygen generation world wide
